Yeah, I’ve heard several Christian voices say something to that effect about gay embryos … or at least ask each other the question. I’m pretty sure that most if not all of them were being what they consider to be funny, though.

After all, the narrative of fundamentalists tends to be that no one is born gay but that it’s the result of sin or perhaps demon possession. I’ve seen Pentecostals play at casting out gay demons, and the person pretend to be straight after that. I suspect that the demon can more easily find its way back in, though, since it knows the window in the back that doesn’t latch properly.

… err, which I didn’t mean as an anal sex joke when I typed that, but I’ll just leave it. (yes, I’m aware that lots of gay guys aren’t into anal sex, but the 12 year-old in the back of my head latched onto it anyway)

They have support for their view from the Bible, after all:

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Supposedly there are polls showing conservative Christian “pro-lifers” people who oppose abortion, but who’d be in favor of aborting an embryo if it were certain to become a person who was gay.

(But being gay “is a choice”!! Yet another layer of doublethink.)

(Anyone have a reference or a rebuttal? My google-fu isn’t up to the task, getting swamped in articles about attitudes about abortion and gay marriage.)

I’m almost surprised that they don’t allow abortion for half of pregnancies, after the point at which you can determine the sex of the fetus.

The new Oklahoma law requires businesses regulated by the Department of Health to post, at their own expense, signs in their restrooms stating, “There are many public and private agencies willing and able to help you carry your child to term and assist you and your child after your child is born, whether you choose to keep your child or to place him or her for adoption. The State of Oklahoma strongly urges you to contact them if you are pregnant.“

Many misogynists claim that their outrageous putdowns of women are “just joking”… but jokes in fact serve a social function. People in the in-group, who share the joke-teller’s worldview, will find a joke funny (and thinkable at some level); if you find it offensive, you’re not in the intended in-group.

Oh yeah, that fucking district. I don’t know how it slipped my mind, but of course that district is the one that includes Texas. Duh.

Yeah, that’s the federal district court that forced a Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, since every other district court ruled in favor of gay marriage.

Joseph, if I understand correctly, the lower court ruling UPHELD the law, so a 4-4 decision would have been disastrous. Justice Kennedy was the key factor here, and I can’t help but notice that Larry, Curly and Moe wrote some rather “sour-grapes” dissents!

Still, this is a VERY BIG DEAL and I for one and glad of it!
