Been a long long time since I posted here, but here goes.

Per the title, there ARE alternatives to 12-step support groups.

Among them is Lifering Secular Recovery. We’re continuing to grow, albeit slowly at times. We don’t have any "steps" at all. It’s "roll your own." (Besides AA, SMART, while also secular in its approach, does have a 4-step basis.)

For those who have heard at least vaguely about secular alternatives to AA/NA, you may know of Secular Organizations for Sobriety. Unfortunately, it seems to be … my assessment … imploding in the last year or two. For those of you who need help, Lifering is there.

If there’s anybody out there who used to be in SOS, or who knows others who used to be, we’d like to welcome you to Lifering. If you used to lead a meeting, and want to get back on that horse, we’d welcome you.

I stopped keeping the sabbath (church, ministries) but i still feel anxious about doing stuff on saturdays (going out, attending birthdays, watching movies) even a simple walk in the park is triggering and i always feel like im going to hell like every day every second. i need help! im sick and tired of keeping the sabbath its nauseating

I am afraid to die. Help!

I went from Christianity to Atheism about a few years ago. I’ve noticed an increase in my death anxiety. I can’t enjoy anything with out thinking how it won’t matter cause I’ll be dead and everything I am and love will be gone. I know I won’t know I am dead but there is something so tragic and heartbreaking that everything I am will be gone. And same for others too. When we die, a universe dies with us. I can’t stand it. What do y’all do to help?

Religion, it is often believed, is important for keeping societies together and for moral behavior. Religions always play an important role in marginalizing and violating those of other faiths in order to uphold the faith community.

However, more and more atheists, who seem to endanger their basic religious and community feeling, are coming to the various religions and sects competing for salvation. They can therefore live dangerously in very religious societies, also because they are the target of prejudice. Scientists have now polled more than 3,000 people, including Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists, as well as atheists, in 13 very religious and more secular countries, as atheists perceive them.

The authors of the study , published in Nature Human Behavior, began with a cultural evolutionary understanding of religion, according to which religion is linked to cooperation and trust in a group. This can be extended to members of other religions, but not to non-believers. From the cultural evolutionary fusion of religion and group, prejudice against atheists could persist even in secular societies and even be found among atheists."
