This was no doubt because of the actions of some folks/organizations getting upset because she’s critical of certain aspects of religion, specifically Islam. What’s worse about all of this is that did Brandeis even know who they were giving this degree to? Did they even bother to research her work and activism AHEAD of time before they made their announcement? This is why the university’s decision was nothing more than ridiculous, to say the least, and many people especially in the atheist community and elsewhere (even Muslims who oppose extreme actions) should be upset over their cave in to the demands of the easily upset folks who don’t want their ideas scrutinized by someone brave like Hirsi Ali.

References/Sources:
Statement from Brandeis University
http://www.brandeis.edu/now/2014/april/commencementupdate.html
New York Times – “Brandeis Cancels Plan to Give Honorary Degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Critic of Islam”
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/04/09/us/brandeis-cancels-plan-to-give-honorary-degree-to-ayaan-hirsi-ali-a-critic-of-islam.html?referrer
“Protest Brandeis University’s withdrawal of honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali”
http://ffrf.org/news/action/item/20339-protest-brandeis-universitys-withdrawal-of-honorary-degree-to-ayaan-hirsi-ali
Dave Silverman – “Open Letter to Fred Lawrence, Brandeis University President”
https://www.facebook.com/notes/dave-silverman/open-letter-to-fred-lawrence-brandeis-university-president/730873826933098
Ayaan Hirsi Ali: ‘They Simply Wanted Me to be Silenced’
http://time.com/56111/ayaan-hirsi-ali-they-simply-wanted-me-to-be-silenced/
Wall Street Journal - “Here’s What I Would Have Said at Brandeis”
http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304512504579493410287663906?mg=reno64-wsj&url=http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304512504579493410287663906.html

Tags: Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Hirsi Ali, Brandeis University, Brandeis, Ayaan Hirsi Ali Brandeis University, religion, criticism of religion, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Bible, Qur’an, God, Allah, honorary degree, atheism, atheist, atheists, university, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, free speech, freedom of speech, silenced, censorship, The Fantastic Skeptic Religions Of Peace?!? tag:www.atheistnexus.org,2015-01-14:2182797:Video:2532227 2015-01-14T03:32:53.962Z The Fantastic Skeptic http://www.atheistnexus.org/profile/TheFantasticSkeptic

Reupload of a previous video I made in 2011, in light of the recent shooting in Paris. The group's Youtube channel garners around 1 million hits a day.

Saudi Arabia has one of the highest per-capita use of Youtube in the world, meaning viral videos could be an effective tool for social change,

On Saturday, several women risked arrest for defying a ban on driving and posting videos online.

Though there is no official law banning women from driving, they are not issued licenses.

The action on October 26 was the third such attempt to provoke debate in the conservative country about women's rights. Though the government had issued a firm warning that women would be arrested, it appears no such measures were taken, sending mixed messages to the activists.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6NJoaduP5I
