ya we shouldnt have to do a lot of things. its called life. its messy and unpredictable.

get used to it or get out!

ya...we should work to make things better but this is what we have NOW. this is the way we sometimes have to handle it.

again.

how many men were propositioned?

how many men were uncomfotable with a situation?

get real.

it goes both ways.

and thats why we need to be forcefull sometimes.

when an asshole is bugging you beyond what you want you take any action nesessary to get rid of the asshole.

what are you going to do?

toss all the assholes in jail just so you can feel not threatened?

"She's not trying to "censor" men, she's just saying that when you behave certain ways women will probably see it as creepy and unwelcome."

thats when you need to be more forcefull and direct.

that will bear the fruit of confidence and when you have that you dont need to feel threatened by any one.

you do what you need to do and feel good about it.

i think its called growing up so as not to be afraid of the world.

WTF>

"I don't think anyone is arguing for a prohibition on hitting on people at events, but when we have women avoiding atheist conferences specifically because of how they are treated by the men there, do you not think we might have a problem?"

I think that some people have a confidence problem...and so does everyone from time to time.

feeling vularable, feelings of ostracicm, feelings of inadequacy, feelings of fear etc......

we all need to learn to deal with these personally.

externalizing them and blaming someone else is not the answer.

has she ever been to a night club, ....a concert?

if you cant take unpredictable normal people check into a monastery or some other cloistered society that dosnt have to interact with unpredictable normal people.

its not  a gender issue....its a personal confidence issue.

personally I think she should have kicked him in the nuts and called security. he would have deserved it.

The whole point of what she was saying is that she shouldn't have to say "fuck off" and that men should understand that there are some situations (ex: alone on an elevator at 4am after you've told everyone that you're tired and want to go to sleep) in which propositioning a woman is not likely to be appreciated.  She's not trying to "censor" men, she's just saying that when you behave certain ways women will probably see it as creepy and unwelcome.

I don't think it's a communication problem (at least on her part) or that she needs to "grow up" and stop bitching and moaning.  After she had spent the day and night talking about how being sexualized makes her uncomfortable, she told the group she was hanging out with that she was tired and wanted to go to bed.  This guy followed her onto the elevator where she was otherwise alone and asked her back to his room, a direct violation of her earlier proclamations against sexualization as well as her declaration that she was on her way to go to sleep (not to mention this is all in a situation that many women would feel extra uncomfortable in).

I don't think anyone is arguing for a prohibition on hitting on people at events, but when we have women avoiding atheist conferences specifically because of how they are treated by the men there, do you not think we might have a problem?

no one is talking about "corrective ass rape">

i am talking about why we make so big of a situation when it happens with everyone from every direction with every one.

its called life.

I was voicing my opinion on the subject just like hers. I did in no way say that she did NOT have thew right to biotch and moan...we all do.

elevator dude was a fucking moron.

we all get exposed to it from time to time.

thats called life.

a better thing to do for all sides considered is to grow up a little and not make it a fucking gender war.

again...how many guys get propositioned at these things?

how many of them feel threatened?

if you want to get someone to not mess with you say so...in no uncertain terms if need be.

thats your right. exercise it any way you like.

this goes for everyone.

so long and thanx for the fish.

"you do not have the right to tell me to censure my speech or actions....and you have that right too. practice it and we will all get along."

Curious that you are doing precisely that in this situation Matt?

She does have the right to react and discuss her reactions.

When was the last time Corrective ass-rape was reccommended to fix your flaws? Logic flaws, physical flaws etc... etc...Why one earth would she waste her time responding to BS like that?

Elevator dude was acting like a stalker - amping up the situation by telling a crazy stalker to "fuck-off" doesn't seem like the brightest idea in that specific situation. I think her larger point is that lots of people (male and female) who think they are rational/logic driven freak out as soon as their own retrograde ideas are exposed as irrational and illogical and revert to school-yard bully behaviour...

p.s.

if you gota bitch and moan like a shy little grl about this issue..you aint no bad mama jama!!!

Comment by matt warren on July 28, 2011 at 11:37am

so why dosnt she just say and write back   "fuck off asshole pig!"...she dosnt get it. she can say...fuck off"  and she dosnt.

I am promoting masculinism.

practice this line.."fuck off...I am tired not horny and I want to be alone and if you dont leave me alone I will kick you in the nuts"...

grow the fuck up girl.

or how about we just be people and treat each other like people that like sex once in a while and if some one finds you atractive you just say o.k.   or fuck off.

and leave it there!

how many wonen propositioned men at these conferences?

these conferences are half "meat market" anyway.

you need to learn to communicate better with strangers kid.

you also need to grow up, get thicker skin and a broader back..........grow up people!

people on both sides of this argument need to get thicker skin and a broader back....

and......grow the fuck up.

you do not have the right to tell me to censure my speech or actions....and you have that right too. practice it and we will all get along.
