Peter Singer - The Genius of Darwin: The Uncut Interviews - Richard Dawkins

I'm seriously considering stopping eating meat. Not only because of the production of greenhouse gases and all the grain (energy and water) required to produce flesh but specially for the moral responsibility all of us carry for all the non-human animal suffering involved.

Marco,
I saw those videos of live cows being pushed off the back of a lorry (literally) only to be pounced on by hungry lions. ****blood curdling as hell****
I felt sorry for the cows. We humans have domesticated them over millennia, artificially selecting the traits that we want, not the traits that they would use in the wild to defend themselves or run away.

Regarding your wish for cryopreservation, I'm not desperate for immortality. I'm quite happy with my choice of reincarnation in the afterlife.

humble soil particles... oh!, after being hyena poo for a little while... :-)

thanks Hannah! In a way many of us know something is not right with the whole meat production (ethics ans sustainability) and even with our healths when consuming them but it sometimes takes to listen to a guy like Peter Singer to get to the tipping point.
That site you suggested I'm checking it out, seems like a great site to support a change of life style! I'm giving it a try! (2nd day without meat)

Cheers

I have followed Peter Singer's works and lectures for many years, and enjoy his thoughts on ethics immensely. The empathy exercise and video at this site are also very interesting:

hahaha, I think that could be arranged with a chinese zoo... have you look at the videos on youtube? -crazy-
My wish would be to be wealthy enough to be frozen as so many others and cling to that tiny possibility of wake up in our future...
...either that or the hyenas thing ;)

Great video. Just like we look back with horror at the slave trade and ask ourselves: what were they thinking??, I think future generations will ask: how could people in the 21st century kill cows for their meat and not have any qualms about it??

As a side note, apparently Ingrid Newkirk said she wanted her meat to be barbequed after she dies, to make a statement. I have an idea; I would like my body to be fed to the hyenas at the local zoo when I die.

Not believing in an afterlife does not mean i am a "sad' person.

I work in healthcare in a long term care facility and I deal with death on a regular basis. About a year ago the opportunity arose for me to take a palliative care course through my work.  I enjoyed it for the most part. It dealt with topics such as end of life care, pain relief and addressing the spiritual needs of different individuals based on their religious beliefs. There was one instance however that was decidedly unpleasant, and unfortunately really overshadowed the rest of my time in the…See More
