Recently there has been an film going around called "Kony 2012" by "invisiblechildreninc" on YouTube. "'KONY 2012' is a film and campaign by Invisible Children that aims to make Joseph Kony famous, not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice for the crimes he have committed for over 26, which include kidnapping children into his rebel group the "LRA", murder, turning the girls into sex slaves, and the boys into child soldiers, making them mutilate people, and he forces them to kill their own parents. For over 26 he has done this with over 30,000 children. For information on the campaign can be found on the video in the description box (and on the annotation)Now, there is some controversy going on with Invisible Children inc, its film "Kony 2012" and its campaign. Invisible Children has been condemned time and time again. As a registered not-for-profit. Last year, the organization spent $8,676,614. Only 32% went to direct services (link on this in the description box), with much of the rest going to staff salaries, travel and transport, and film production. The group is in favour of direct military intervention, and their money supports the Ugandan government's army and various other military forces. Here is a photo of the founders of Invisible Children posing with weapons and personnel of the Sudan People's Liberation Army. Still, the bulk of Invisible Children's spending is on awareness and filmmaking. Which can be great, except that Foreign Affairs has claimed that Invisible Children (among others) "manipulates facts for strategic purposes, exaggerating the scale of LRA crimes. For information on the controversy of the campaign, please look down at the description box below with the links to several articles opposing Invisible Children. Watch the film, read up on as much information as you can, from those supporting it, as well as those opposed to the campaign. Decide for yourself on what is right. But from what I have read, seen, etc. The main thing is to stop Kony, and the crimes he has committed.
