Most of my arguments against theists invoke quite a large amount of sarcasm and reductio ad absurdum; as a philosopher, revealing a position to be absurd is the most effective way of defeating it. And since theists seem to hinge their egotism on the self-importance and megalomania religion preaches, showing them how having faith creates inferior people could be the best way of cutting these egotists down to size.
Comment by Loren Miller on May 8, 2012 at 3:14pm Ed, it's been my experience that true believers don't respond to logic, so I don't waste my time engaging logic with them. I may not be as deft with the English language as the Hitch was in his day, but I have no problem ridiculing that which is ridiculous when I see it.
I mean ... House clearly doesn't have such a problem!
