@Jon T

Yes, you are precisely correct. The young woman has been primed, propagandized, and as you so thoughtfully said, "Religion is exploiting a purported tie between evolution, eugenics, racism, abortion and planned parenthood as a social evil."

There is no good coming out of the religious right; this year, with the election and wedge issues, people fall for the mongering going on and don't have tools to deal with it. USA is losing it's primary place in the economic and political aspects of existence on earth and some are grabbing as for a life ring in a raging sea.

That is why we need rational, critical thinking, calm, confident, capable people to attend these rallies. We don't need alcohol thrown on a fire.

And as you also wrote, we need to earn trust so that "truths that would bring about this kind of reaction in a girl who does not know what to trust and what to believe." The stakes are high.

Respectfully Joan, I think you're making a lot of biased assumptions here while ignoring the facts.

Respectfuly, Richard, you may be right that I make a lot of biased assumptions while ignoring the facts, and if so I shall humble myself before the keyboard and send you information that I am eating humble pie.

However, I don’t think I am off track on this one. I’ve seen this too many times and had too many disagreements on how to manage such outbursts.

First of all, She appeared calm and smiled. What does that mean? I don’t know; but she had a very sudden change in behavior. She screamed words I couldn’t understand, she flopped herself around in wild and out of control ways. The teacher looked stunned, the students surprised, amazed, some amused. She made verbal threats, was irrational, bigoted and violent. All of this tells me she saw or heard something that tapped into a raw spot and set her off.

What was that raw spot? As a stranger to the scene, as one often is when a student blows up, one runs into the room and has to make split second judgments; sometimes I have been correct, sometimes not. Most times, I have been able to read the scene enough to begin to get some control and settle things down.

I did not realize she is 24 years old, but that really makes little difference in the exploding behavior. So, she behaved immaturely and only looked like an out of control teen. In any event, her violent verbal and physical assaults escalated. I didn’t hear the kill word, but that is not at all uncommon.

Teachers get paid too little and have to face life and death coming from any direction. But that is for another time.

On quick read, she heard or saw something and the information went straight to her amygdula … that is called being hijacked by the amygdula of her brain. It is the freeze, fight or flight part of the brain, very primitive, it overtakes the cognitive parts of the brain.

Can it be treated before a crime occurs? Yes, if it is perceived as hyjacked amygdula and not a crime. Anger outbursts are foretellers of out of control anger that can lead to violent crime.

http://www.biblebelievers.net/creationscience/kjcevol1.htm This type of information is being used to discredit science, provoke distrust, and cull the religious horde in an effort to offer up religion and the love of a god belief as a better alternative to the reality science offers. Religion is exploiting a purported tie between evolution, eugenics, racism, abortion and planned parenthood as a social evil. I would purpose that all of you have gleaned  truths that would bring about this kind of reaction in a girl who does not know what to trust and what to believe.

"I know the drill all too well, This kid feels vulnerable, out of control, powerless, helpless, unable to predict what will happen to her, a lot of chaos in her life, tragedies that overwhelm her sense of agency."

Joan, how do you know this for sure? She is irrational, bigoted and violent, …these things are in evidence.

"Oh I can hear you all now, give her a good whipping and put her in a locked room! Well, folks, that doesn't work."

Nobody's gone there yet.

"She is not a criminal and should not be treated like one. Yes, they had to get control over her because she lost ability to control her feelings. I suspect she may break down into tears when she quiets down, or continues outraged. It really doesn't matter which, she needs a calm, confident, understanding hand ... "

That was tried, she escalated and violently assaulted at least 5 other people and threatened to kill everybody.

"She is a teenager, going through hormonal changes that she doesn't feel comfortable with, too many kids her age link up with other angry kids and they feed off each other."

No, she isn't a teenager, she's a 24 year old adult.

Respectfully Joan, I think you're making a lot of biased assumptions here while ignoring the facts.

She is a teenager, going through hormonal changes that she doesn't feel comfortable with, too many kids her age link up with other angry kids and they feed off each other. If she isn't handled properly, she is lost to civil society. If she is handled well, she will begin to make sense of her life and all the chaos going on around her and develop some coping skills.

My young boy at the ranch came in as angry as she, so full of rage, and in those days we could call the police department and they would put the boy in a jail cell and wait for time to pass. He would return to the ranch and no way to deal with what was happening to him. Foul language, threatening gestures, out of control anger episodes. He started wring about his anger, describing his feelings and thoughts, hopes and dreams. His writings were full of violence and the foul words never stopped. He is the one I took to the college English professor who recognized in him what I saw and we affirmed him in his writing. He developed nicely and returned to his home. After leaving the ranch, he got into the wrong crowd, robbed a grocery store and was killed by the store owner.

This young angry girl awakens memories best left forgotten ... but that is the point ... if we forget, we do not do what has to be done to stop the crazyness.

The, "How does evolution kill black people?" loaded question presupposes that, evolution kills black people. Now where would she have gotten that idea? The Prof didn't understand the question because it was not a valid question to begin with. She didn't "get" that part, probably still doesn't.

I think this is another example of fundie disinformation pushing someone with emotional/mental health issues past the tipping point.

At least she didn't have a gun.

It did look like she started going haywire after they were talking about mate selection in peacocks. It was mentioned that the teacher was saying that the females choose specific partners with the best/fullest tail feathers as a way to get rid of unwanted traits. At least that's what the video that you posted was mentioning in the comments below, Richard. I think she may have just been on the edge and that comment made her snap. Who knows, but it's pretty amazing that people reject the idea of science showing where we came from and how animals (of which we are) choose mates in order to produce a healthier and stronger gene pool.

People rarely see the beauty in the differences between us all. When it comes to religion, if you are not like them you are poison. I remember from my days in the Mormon church that they would say not to read anything that says negative things about the church and that if you did it was like "spiritual pornography". This is a way of controlling thinking and shaping thoughts and behaviors. In some ways each group uses tools to get them to stick together and perhaps you are right that they ghettoize themselves. I don't know if that has anything to do with this particular situation, but I hear what you're saying, Marc. People should focus on the things that can unite us rather than tear us apart. We shouldn't see people's race or class, but rather just see ourselves as human beings coexisting in this world together. Things would be a lot more harmonious if people would open their minds and hearts. It's interesting to me that religious folks are taught to love others as Jesus did, but then what they do is exclude anyone from that group that isn't like them. Those values don't include all, they exclude. Yet, I find those without religious affiliation to be more accepting and loving to everyone around them. Religion and humanity are not one in the same.

"One of which stated that just earlier she and her sisters planned on doing a protest for the killing of Trayvon Martin."

I've seen a few articles trying to join the two issues, but: This doesn't match anything in the arrest reports, eyewitness statements or the video.

I think this probably has some creationist disinformation behind it with regards to their disinformation tactic of conflating Evolution with either eugenics or genocide (which she made reference to during her arrest). The fact that she was involuntarily placed under care at South County Mental Health may point to her having a preexisting loosened screw.
