I have been disconsolate all weekend upon hearing of Christopher Hitchen's death. A man of great wit and sagacity. His words were always penetrating and provocative. There were and are very writers who I made a specific point to read or listen. Mr Hitchens was one of the few. What a brilliant mind and author; what a terrible loss!

No, there was no one else like him ... but in audiences from London and Cambridge to New York and Los Angeles, might there have been young, ambitious writers, inspired by the sybaritic contrarian they listened to of an evening?  I think this far more than slightly likely.  Christopher Hitchens will live on in the words he has written and spoken, and perhaps soon in upcoming writers and commentators who studied at the School of Hitch and found their own spark from it.

I sure hope so.
