The first in a series examining Rick Warren's best-selling devotional (which is totally not a self-help book). This video looks at the first section, titled "What On Earth Am I Here For?"

Comment by Pat on January 13, 2013 at 7:24pm You close by saying that you hope this series will be of some use to us. For myself, 1) it will alleviate the necessity of reading that bloviated asshole's book, and 2) I now have a basis to tell my batshit evangelical brother and sister-in-law why their morbidly obese guru is more full of shit than bat cave in Mexico. Keep up the good work.
Comment by Steve Shives on January 11, 2013 at 12:00pm I manage it through a combination of determined curiosity and deep, self-loathing masochism. Or something.
Like is too short to read such tripe. Any time I try to do what you are doing, getting to know the enemy that is, I drift off and my mind wanders ... thinking of the things I would rather be doing, things I would rather be reading, etc., while the words march by and exit my brain like a sieve. I don't know how you manage it.
Comment by Loren Miller on January 11, 2013 at 9:49am You're also damned good at it, Steve, never mind having the patience to actually go through books like these and analyze them thoroughly. I'd be lucky if I could make it 10 pages in before throwing the damned thing down, saying, "Who the *%&@!!! does this guy think he's kidding?"
Understanding those books through the filter of your analysis is far more palatable. Please keep up the great work.
Comment by Steve Shives on January 11, 2013 at 9:30am I'm glad I took a break, too. And it feels good to get back to this sort of thing. I enjoy it way more than I hate it.
