all i can say is sad, sad, sad. that is exactly what scares the hell out of me about my kids in school. we have to stand up and say, we are atheists, we do not believe. if we don't why do you care.

I agree it is sad, but what really gets my goat is that this is a clear first amendment violation of separation of church and state. Funny if this had occurred in the 9th district it would been viewed as a violation, similarly to the pledge of allegiance case that was decided on a few years back.

Thanks Sara for posting this. I think atheism scares religious people even more than eternal damnation. It questions their phony "faith" to the core. I am so glad my family and I live far away from the bible belt. I can't imagine living in a community like Hardestry, OK.

This made me sick to my stomach and raised my blood pressure. Yeah i didn't think that was right w/ the 6% of Americans are Atheist. What I thought was comical was the pastor's wife "I don't know what an Atheistis, i know they don't worship the same God as me." Uneducated blind follower, christians (well mostly all religious people) just believe what there parents told 'em. Reminds me of "The Water Boy" in science class, "but but momma said." They just believe cause they were told to and there scared of going to hell because they have lived such unmoral life's. I know just a hand-full of Atheist and they have great moral character, but for the hundreds of christians I know they go to the club friday and saturday, fuck whomever whenever,do drugs and drink, then go to church to be "forgiven", then here comes monday and it's back to the same. I hope my son doesn't have to go through what this girl went through (yeah right i live in TN) but if he does I know he'll do the same and stand-up for what he believes in.

I believe that the church featured at 4:12, "The Apostolic Faith Church," is a branch of the church that I attended for a long time with the headquarters located here in Portland, OR. I once shook the hand of the overseer of its domestic and international branches at the annual camp meeting in Portland. I believe this church to be affiliated because it is located on a street who's name is the same as the last name of the church founder. They are not only intolerant of nonbelievers, but of Catholics, feminists, homosexuals, and women holding positions of power. I would like to bring this churh down and have a plan to do it. It is nonviolent, and I believe that it would seriously undermine Christianity, especially organized, in general. It would require many individuals to accomplish, but it would be the most significant thing that any participant could do to shift the balance of power currently held by the faithful in our direction. Our names would forever be recorded in history alongside with Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens. Think about it.

Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film video

Posted by Debra Stevenson on May 21, 2013 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film.  The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons.  He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

Do you support 'traditional' marriage, vot now ad

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"!  .

No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes.  'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands.  Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
