OK Loren, I respect your desire to keep A|N troll-free. I support you in that.
Sadly, this isn't news, Joan. I'd just like to do my part to keep A|N as troll-free as possible, and if I were enabled to do so, I would, and gladly so.
I sent this note to Larry, my son-in-law, who has a hosting company:

Hi Larry, We are having problems with people joining Atheist Nexus even though there is a pledge new members take that they are non-religious in order to become a member. Obviously, that is just an invite for proselytizing religious to become a member then start their poisonous diatribes. Our moderator excludes them as soon as it becomes clear what they are up to. Is there a way to block their IP address as well?

If it is any consolation it is not just at this site it is everywhere. I belong to a few mechanical and engineering forums. There are people that join with the fixed purpose of harassing others, challenging everything that is posted, calling other people names. This is where the term "troll" came from on the Internet. How about the person that rings our phone at all hours from a spoofed number. Some people must have far too much time on their hands.
The site is hosted on a system through a company called ning http://www.ning.com/ The site operators are not systems administrators. In other words the only controls available to them is what is offered through the ning platform. Looking at the webpage http://www.ning.com/ under privacy and moderation controls I don't see block IP as an option.
Loren, the night before I left their home, Larry received four phone calls during the night with no one there and no way to trace the calls. It is a nightly problem. He designed a work-around so he can get some sleep, however, he tries to respond in a timely way to all service calls, including round the clock service. He also has clients from all around the globe so wants to be available at all hours.
The internet can be ugly.
The same to you, Pat. I value and very much appreciate your endorsement. Thank you.
I appreciate the vote of confidence, Joan, very much.
I agree about the team effort Joan. Which is why I do report spammers and frauds like Acuna when I see them. As to his post, probably just as well it's disappeared down the rat hole.
As to Loren, I heartily 2nd the nomination.
I think it should be a team effort. We are fully capable of sending them on their way with honest comments of our disdain, plus a complete eradication of their input.
I can't think of any better moderator than you, Loren, to give that final thrust!
For what it's worth, I'm available...
As of this moment, it ain't up to me...
Maybe they need volunteer moderators :) I get the impression there's only a few people doing this. Or one.
However it's handled, I think a degree of consistency would be appropriate. In recent days there was a "Ken Johnson" and another "Johnson" I think who temporarily distracted our community. Both of them were kicked, but some of their comments remain ... and I'd just as soon they didn't, myself. If it were up to me, any theist caught on this site would get his or her ass kicked off and their IP address blocked before they could blink. As of this moment, it ain't up to me...
