"Take some time and put the Bible on your summer reading list. Try and stick with it cover to cover. Not because it teaches history; we've shown you it doesn't. Read it because you'll see for yourself what the Bible is all about. It sure isn't great literature. If it were published as fiction, no reviewer would give it a passing grade. There are some vivid scenes and some quotable phrases, but there's no plot, no structure, there's a tremendous amount of filler, and the characters are painfully one-dimensional. Whatever you do, don't read the Bible for a moral code: it advocates prejudice, cruelty, superstition, and murder. Read it because: we need more atheists — and nothin' will get you there faster than readin' the damn Bible."

"The Bible: Fact or Fiction?", Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, season 2 episode 6, Showtime, 6 May 2004

“To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Welcome to the West Coast - or welcome back if you are originally from the area.

When I originally moved to Oregon from Indiana in the 1980s, there was some culture shock.  I loved it but even so it took some time to acclimate.  In the end, I can't imagine living in any other region.

Hi Steph,

Haven't seen you here for a while.  Glad to see you posting

You probably were and just not me noticing it.

Did you move to CA?  Noticed the change of location.  Big change I imagine!

Thank you, Steph.  I've visited just once, and it feels like a very warm, intelligent group...comfortable and conversation that is an interchange, not a diatribe.  Mostly about atheism, of course, but I'm going to expand into more sexual groups.  I'm a full time writer having been laid off teaching, so it's a nice break, but I have to remember to write, promote, and blog -- talk about multitasking.
