True Love

Oh I remember. I recall. Not that I forgot at all the jewish lady that I saw, the afternoon, the street. In my first gaze in early fall of loveliness and fate. She the subject unaware of a picture then and there I am holding fast of more than pretty, of jewish beauty, an enchantment that lasts and lasts. Sweet convergence then unknown yet put down as a given with the pencil of intent in which true love is written.

Quack, Quack, Qvack, Qvack

Posted on January 9, 2013 at 6:20pm 3 Comments

I was put into charge. Quack, qvack, qvack. I am bored and alone reigning supreme over the lifeless cosmos. Quack, qvack, qvack. Hmmmm. How about a little diversion? That's the ticket. Planet earth is as good as any.

How am I to know what my creator intended? Whence derive a sense of right and wrong? No impetus is apparent to me. Who am I to consult? I shall do as I please. The cosmos is my canvas and I shall play; plant the seeds of life and observe its evolution-spread the juice and…

EXTREMISM

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 10:13pm 14 Comments

Any time a zealot commits an extreme act we hear how anomalous and senseless it is. Oh it is a departure from our religion which is one of peace, they'll say.

There is a greater awareness among atheists that the party line is a lie. Western religions are anything but peaceful. Their scripture is vicious. And by the very nature of the contract the religious adherent forfeits her right to reason contrary to the "word". Faith and obedience are in the recipe for religious…

FAITH HEALING

Posted on February 2, 2011 at 12:51pm 6 Comments

Did anyone else see Doctor Oz and his treatment of faith healing? Yuck, in what was purportedly an objective presentation Oz left the audience with an appreciation for the efficacy of faith healing. If the American populace is not ignorant enough, the Doctor added a dollop of dumb.

Probably some religious parents with ill children will ask JC's intermediary for a favor.

Recently joined AN curious to see how other atheists see things. In general I am impressed but you guessed it-not entirely. When atheists looks at a mass-murderer and the victim's entrails are exposed too many will ask whether the sociopath's third cousin once removed is in fact a cyclops. If I may use a cliche you are missing the forest for the trees. All of the speculation about JC is overdone. There is a focus on theology which misses the point. Obviously religion is a steaming pile of…

Comment appreciated. I suppose "great" is a relative term.

And yes, formation of axioms must also admit of reason. Axioms obtained from indoctrination are morally nil. I agree entirely. Glen, my philosophical older brother, thank you for the helpful critiques.

I suspect that my last post serves no purpose. I was curious about other people's definitions, but I am not a moral relativist. The post smacks too much of relativism. It's going on the rubbish pile.

For years I bundled up to go jogging. Only recently have I decided "This is nuts!" Besides, I have "chilblained toes" which hurts if I spend too much time in the cold. I get outdoors enough as it is. Thanks for the comment.

Brian Cox's "Wonders of the Universe," both the dvd and the book, are stunningly beautiful. Highly recommended.

Regarding bang and transition, I would forward that question to Roger Penrose's "Road to Reality". If you survive that mammoth tome, assuming that you have comprehended what you have read, you will have acquired the requisite knowledge for a PhD in physics. The next step would be to create a universe in a jar to experiment with and see what conditions are required for stability. Make sure to feed and water it twice a day and play some J. S. Bach to nurture its intellectual growth.

The Rednecks are coming, the Rednecks are coming

Actually, the rednecks are here and everywhere. Let me say, I'm not a big fan of these people. That's putting it mildly. Need I describe them? You know who I mean. This seems to be the time of year when they come out of the woodwork. Here in Indiana, as the weather gets nice, the motorcyclists are out in full force. I hate the noise cycles make. Then there's the Indianapolis 500 fans, the majority of which are rednecks. Interview them or a typical Pacer fan (big news as they face the Miami…See More
