Yeah, I knew that Jamaica and Haiti are a little backwards, religiously speaking.  Hell, Haiti is freaking Haiti.  It's known throughout the hemisphere as the poor, corrupt, messed-up island-nation.  They had so many issues, even before the recent earthquake trashed them.

If you want culture and relative sanity, the northeast is a decent part of the country.  Boston, Philadelphia, New York, most of Connecticut and Rhode Island ...

If you want real godlessness though, your best best is the Pacific northwest.  Coastal Oregon and Washington State are the most liberal, most atheistic parts of the country.  Portland, OR and Seattle, WA are both about half atheist.

And ... yeah, Canada is right out, for you, unless you're able to head way to the south, in the winter.  I'd like it, since I prefer temperatures down in the 50's or 60's.  I can't imagine living as close to the equator as you are.  The humidity is very high down there too, isn't it?

Actually, despite being very far north, Portland and Seattle stay fairly warm, even in the winter.  With global warming really starting to show an effect, it'll probably be even warmer, in the future.

Well, nuts.  I must be thinking of some of the other islands, or perhaps one of the countries in the neck of Central America, below Mexico.  Something like Costa Rica, maybe.

Sorry to hear about that.  Being in an area full of fundies is annoying.  I'm planning on moving further north, at some point, myself.

I was born in the Chicago area, so that would be a good area for me to move back to.  I've become ashamed of the stuff that my current state has been doing, lately ... and we just elected a conservative governor, last week, so it's probably going to get worse during the next 4 years.

Doing all right myself, for the most part. Doing what I can to get by. Hope you have a great week!

Welcome, Nikita! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Young Atheist Women, Women Atheists, Female AtheistsAnime and possibly Feminist Atheists.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since the climate is changing so drastically. The Bahamas is especially vulnerable.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

On a personal note, I’ve developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me

Ooh, nice place to live.  I've heard that some of the islands down there are quite progressive and secular.  At least they seem that way, compared to the United States.
