It goes to show that one can still be conservative, libertarian or otherwise and still hold no belief in gods.
Thx for the comment too

You should come by the Metroplex Atheist meeting on Wednesday night. We'll be at J. Gilligans on Abram at around 6:30.

Hi from Austin! It's nice to see other Atheists from the great state. I hear what you're saying about the bible belt. That's why I love Austin! It's an island of sanity.

Yes, College Station.  It's not so hard being an out gay atheist here, because we have a high ratio of PhDs per capita.  I've got dozens of atheist friends.

Hope your situation gets better.  Have a great weekend.

Hi to you Keith, wonderful day to you also. I cannot imagine coming from a place like CA to this place. I came from OK and I get nervous here...
Thx for the welcome.

Thanks Keith!  Appreciate the welcome.....and the ONLY people I know in my area that are non-theist are the Freethinkers group here in SA....San Antonio and generally anywhere in the bible belt, people get creepy crawleys if you mention anything antireligion or planned parenthood etc.....I find myself biting my tongue on many occasions....I am sure you have found this to be true as well....its just not worth the uproar to try and educate the sunday school crowd....PS:  Very sorry for your recent losses....

Thanks, Keith!  Lawdhammercy, I'm glad to be here!  I can have intelligent, stimulating discussions with people that won't draw a gasp from religious nutbags (like my family).  I tried to find a meetup group close to home, but Arlington is the closest that I've found (Metroplex Atheists).

Hi Keith,

Pleased to meet you. I too moved here from Cali in 2000. Oh yeah, major culture shock! I am originally from Ohio and Texas is a world different from there, too.

Being a progressive, atheist makes it difficult to make friends here. Hence my joining the Nexus.

Anywho, I am off to do critter chores. Thank you for dropping me a note. =)

well, in all fairness, i did spend most of my life on the (heathen) east coast.. but yes, my entire extended family is very religious...and republican..so I feel you pain in being surrounded by a completely alien culture

Hey Keith,  It's so nice to meet you!  I just moved to Valley Village from Philadelphia 7 months ago.  I love it here.

Hi Keith, I agree that your compliment is far off atheism track:-) but it's very sweet. Thank you.

Hi Keith G. We deeply sympathise with you over your story.

Certainly we welcome to this rational world of Internet atheism---a haven from the superstitions and fictional god of the masses.

"Well-founded common sense inevitably leads to atheist wisdom."

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with nearly 500 discussion topics and 2750 members.
