Shawn-Great music and great sentiments...again, I love the West Indian voice and thank you for getting me back on AN (see longer email I sent to your regular account).
Greetings, skr-one human! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.
Hello. That's a fine introduction you have written. Welcome to this wonderful world of Internet atheism, free of belief in superstitions and that fictional god of the masses.
It's hard because most of upstate NY is so conservative/christian...people always assume in conversation that everyone is a believer. The perception of atheists is negative, so no one automatically assumes that any normal-seeming people like my husband and myself could be one of those! We mostly just nod and smile to keep the peace when people bless us or say they're praying for us. However, lately we've started to speak up and let others know that we find the christian speak a bit off-putting. We have two grown children who now live in more metropolitan areas. It seems that their generation is more able to speak freely and connect with other like-minded individuals. I'm glad for them. They are raising our grandchildren without any outside pressure to attend church (so far). What is it like where you live in Florida?
