well i am overjoyed that you beat cancer. I truly am!! My father succumbed to prostate cancer last year at age 87. He was my inspiration.he was always complaining about those "damn churches" that try to use the Olde Testament in an effort to deny scientific facts. A retired engineer,he strongly supported science education and was angry that backwards thinking churches were purveyors of irrationality. I guess i got my skepticism from him.

Jessica, thank you.  And it IS a small world sometimes!  My brother just had an ablation last week at UIC for his A fib.  When I was there, I used to bike to UIC from my place near Peterson on Oakley.  Every weekend I went to a different Indian restaurant on nearby Devon.  That was in the late 90s.  Seems like a long time ago now.

Hello Jessica. Tony here. Just wanted to thank you again. I am an amatuer, not trained in science, except the normal high school/college courses that I took. But I love science, particularily particle physics/quantum mechanics. Most people get this unfocused look on their faces  whenever I share something from a book, magazine, web sitr, tv show with them. My response when questioned by them, particularily why, is "It makes my brain melt, but in a good way". Really get strange looks then. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you again. Feel free to contact me at any time. Peace.

Signing Atheists

I was going to set up a group for Deaf Atheists, but figured I'd probably be alone in here if I did that so I figured I'd open it to anyone who knows sign language or even interested in learning it.

Dennis Michael Pennington commented on blue pashmina's blog post Not believing in an afterlife does not mean i am a "sad' person.
"Living forever is not what it's cracked up to be. I'm not sad, but I do get tired more often. Imagine how sad and tired you would be after a few hundred years of singing praises and hosannas with God. Maybe it wouldn't even take that…"

Dennis Michael Pennington commented on Wyatt's blog post Theists, Cargo Cults, and Logic
"I agree with Two Cult Survivor. The theist already knows that he is correct, and he has the evidence, the Holy Bible - the "word of God." The theist puts it on YOU to show evidence that God is non-existent and he walks around talking to…"

"@blue pashima. The woman being interviewed by Blitzer has a TON of class! @Randall. I tend to agree about rednecks.  Personal bias on my part, but the sound of Country and Western music is, to me, the equivalent of a knife scraping against a…"
