"CFI-Harlem/Harlem Humanists will be gathering on Sunday February 26th to celebrate Day of Solidarity for Black Non-believers. This is a time to get together and enjoy bright minds and warm personalities. There's a noble story of freethought from within the African American and Pan-African tradition. This is a chance to connect with this tradition and each other. We'll begin at 1pm. The place is 583 Riverside Dr. in the "Brick Room". It's free. Just e-mail (harlem@centerforinquiry.net) or call (646-820-CFIH) for all the details." RSVP, if you can.
My riding buddy and I did the California, by way of the Grand Canyon, ride last year. I was able to spend a half day at the Round Up last year here in the ATL. Five years ago I was in Orlando in school and wasn't able to make it. I ride and on and off duty and don't spend much time at large rallies. I've been riding all my life alone and within the last 5 or so years, I've ridden with my buddy out of Virginia. We served together and he's trying to catch up with me with miles and experience. Not gonna happen. I've got a few guys who are going all the way with me next year and a few others who will ride out to SD with me. Either way, you're more than welcome and you're gonna love it. We've got a 'guys only' ride to New Orleans later this month. There are 5 of us this trip.
Hey Eddie. Saw your comments and was glad to hear from you. I'm in the ATL and take a long distance ride every year. Trying to keep a low profile this year as I'm planning on heading to Anchorage next year. This will be the ride of a life time and I'm planning it very carefully. Anytime you're in my area, give me a shout. I'll take you to the Dragon and see what you got. Take care.
You mentioned a conference in Seattle that you attended. Was it an atheist conference, or something related to work/hobbies? I'd definitely make the drive to Seattle to attend an atheist conference.
I am out about my atheism at work. I don't have any repercussions from my employer or my co-workers. My question is how do I address my friends in the Black community regarding atheism. I am not trying to deconvert anyone, I am just wanting to challenge them to start thinking outside the box. One friend said I should just let them stay in their comfort zone and not point out the negative parts of religion. What is your opinion on this matter?
Eddie
You are not alone in the black community. Norm Allen is a staff writer for the Center for Inquiry, Amhurst, NY. Reginald Finley is the founder and host of Infidel Guy Show. You are not alone in the atheist community either. Welcome.
I would also like to welcome you to A|N. I noticed your age, which is exactly the same as mine. We need more grey hair on this website!
There are many groups for you to check out and see what interests you. We recently started another new group, "Conversations on Race, Ethnicity, and Culture" and are hoping for diverse insights. Please feel free to check us out and, if interested, join and share your thoughts and experiences!
That really sucks man. i'm sorry, but at least you're not letting it get you in a funk, as you say.
A drunk driver killed 3 of my friends a long time ago. He did the whole crocodile tears thing in court and the judge let him off on community service. I and a few friends decided to get a petition going to get him back in court as well as harass the judge non-stop about it, nothing was ever done, no matter how hard we tried. Luckily for us, his kind of lifestyle is always gonna lead to bad news and he had another accident and this time got sentenced.
Anyway, no more negative stuff...haha...i just enjoy meeting new people and like minded skeptics, and this site is great for just that!
You immediately have lots of friends and good support here. Feel at home. Enjoy.

The group seeks to understand the mysteries of the universe, and how life and humans and religion and everything began. There's a lot to talk about.

That's a sweet bike, incidentally.
