I work for two small towns in Eastern NC and I have heard several of the elected officials and planning board members say that they believe that Obama is a muslim(as if there were something wrong with that). They totally bought into the all of the rumors. I have heard several people say that they would never vote for a black man. I don't know why I am still a little surprised at the open bigotry that so many people display.
Yeah, the consumerism culture, it just seems to me, is just part of this OVER competitive society. Even in the workplace, it just seems encouraged to lie, cheat, or stomp on anyone to 'get ahead', like it's normal. I don't know. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but it just seems psychopathic, almost.
The Giger sculpture is in Switzerland - we spent Christmas there last year and when I realised how close we were to the Giger bar and museum in Gruyères I had to go and see it.
Belgium is a pretty good place to be, but the Dutch speaking parts seem friendlier than the French ;o)
I have some cousins and aunts and uncles still in both Dallas and Ft. Worth. I now live in North Carolina in a rural area. I think every one of my neighbors is an evangelical. That is why I don't speak of my atheism or any of my world views for that matter. Many people where I live are very southern, religious, right-wing, closed minded, etc. etc.
While I must admit that I have seen a few videos, wink wink nod nod, I have not seen that one. And by-the-way, I was born in Ft. Worth and still have family in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
Had to leave a comment after seeing your review of The Haunting of Hill House on another page. Shirley Jackson does not get the respect she deserves nowadays, and your review was quite touching! I'm also a huge industrial/metal fan, and love Electric Hellfire Club too.
To your follow up question: Actually, I don't know. I can only tell you what it was like when I was in the service and that was a long time ago and it would not be relevant today. Back then everything was hidden. It may still be. Keep in mind that since 2000, the Bushites are everywhere in the military.
Thanks, I'm glad I found this site. Sometimes its so lonely sitting around wondering stuff with no one to talk to. I'm still getting used to the idea of being an 'atheist'. I guess I've always been one but never really thought too much about it.
To answer your question: I think that the problems we experience in the world of sexuality comes from ignorance, including any problems that may be attributed to gays in the military. Such ignorance is generated by beliefs.

I've heard of it, but I haven't actually seen it, no.
