I don't understand it really, but people feel safer when they believe that someone else is taking care of the situation. People are increasingly okay with the government taking care of them. All too often I've seen it, with Atheists especially, that they trade their servitude to a diety for a servitude to the state or their fellow man or what have you.

I can't believe someone in this day and age would think that the government is a benevolent force out there to help us out. They are so far removed, as individuals, from the true American experience that they have completely lost touch with the people they say they serve.

I would never say that I have any understanding of what it means to be an indigenous person in the bush of the Khalahari desert in Africa, nor would I run as a representative for them, but the congresspersons here have about as much ability to empathize with us as I do a Khalahari bushman.
