Hey, Thanks for the comment. What kinds of bands are you into and wanting to learn? I have found a lot of the so called "music theory" that i know has come from practical application. You can find how they came up with the chord progression by learning different scales, or i will find the scale that a single note line is build around. If it is not already clear, I love the guitar and I love music, so if you ever have any questions about that kind of stuff, let me know, I would be more than happy to help out a fellow guitarist!!

Also, you mentioned my blog before, not sure if you read them or not, but I am working on a new one right now and should have it up in the next couple days or so.

Oh, do you read guitar tabs? I learned a ton from magazines like guitar world and guitar player. It will open a lot of doors for you, and it is way easier than reading sheet music.

OK, have a great Thanksgiving weekend and keep rocking!!

Thanks for the kind words. Playing guitar is a great way to express yourself, and it is one of those things where no matter how good you get, there is always more to learn. You will hit rough patches, but don't get discouraged, but remember that it is a lifetime commitment! Same with the tattoos, I was lucky enough to have a job (musician) that allowed me to ink myself up without repercussions, so keep that in mind if you want to get ink done. It is going to be there forever...what I normally do when I want to get some work done is wait 6 months to a year before I get it put on to make sure that it is still something that I want on me forever. I have not always done this and I have a few regrets, don't live life with regrets!!

I'm doing all right mostly, just hanging in and taking things as they come. You know, the usual stuff. *LOL*

The music I write generally isn't anywhere near as hard as the harder stuff I listen to.  Maybe some of Tool's lighter songs ... although I'm seriously pumping myself up, comparing myself to them.  Those guys are way more skilled.

It's definitely more on the hard rock/Celtic side of things, though.  I rely heavily on bass and percussion, but ... i dunno, it's definitely not metal, anyway.  There are only 3 songs I've written, from back when I was in my last band.  It's not much of a trend to extrapolate from.

Yeah, down near the LA area, you'd be a lot better off, in terms of socializing.  You still get plenty of religious people, but they tend to be more reasonable, liberal theists.

Hell, you even get some Pagans.  They're just as wacky and unskeptical, but they're more decent to deal with, as friends.  Of course, that mostly has to do with the fact that oppressed minorities tend to be less judgmental against other minorities.  You look for what allies you can get, against the abusive majority.

How are your parents?  Are they religious nuts?

Hmm, British metal, like Iron Maiden?  What are some recent British metal bands?  I haven't been keeping up, lately.

On the industrial end, I'm a big fan of Gravity Kills and Stabbing Westward.  Shame we won't be getting anything new out of either of them.

I also listen to a lot of stuff like Disturbed, but they're not technically metal, just very hard rock.

Aside from that, i listen to all sorts of things.  I listen to some modern jazz and classical music ... Celtic music, from time to time.  I'll listen to just about anything, except for country music, rap, and gospel.  I just tend to lean towards the heavier sorts of rock.

What kind of games are you into?

Welcome, Shyanne! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Young Atheist Women, Nexus Book Club, Atheist Writers, Godless Gamers, Oh, the Horror!, Favorite Horror Movies at Atheist Nexus, Atheist Metalheads, Dark Atheists, Women Atheists, Female Atheists, and possibly Feminist Atheists.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since California's climate is changing so drastically.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

On a personal note, I’ve developed an animated gif technique, sort of “pull quote marries slideshow”. Samples are scattered across various groups, but you can find them easily by going to my twitter account. Each tweet has a link (after the description and before the hashtags) to a visually rich example here at Atheist Nexus. If you like them, please follow me

Nice.  I took piano for a couple years, back in high school.  I'm rusty as hell, by this point, though.  I could probably still handle a tuba, if I picked one back up, since I played that through college, but my cello and piano skills are mostly gone.  It's a shame, since the piano would be most useful, for music composition, if i ever got around to recording the songs I've written.

Well, one thing at a time.  I'm focused on the standup comedy, right now, so I can get the hell out of the I.T. field.  After that, I'll work on getting the books finished and published.  The musical pursuits can wait for whenever, since getting anywhere in that field is a bit tougher.

It's kind of funny to hear atheists in California having to seek like-minded people, online.  I guess most people think of California as this great liberal stronghold, when in reality, rural California is just as hick and fundie as the rest of the state, in lots of places.

Which sort of metal do you listen to?

Nice.  I didn't know that metal was still particularly big.  Admittedly, most of the stuff I listen to is more old-school, from the 80's and 90's.

Ooh, and classical, too.  Nice.  Are you in school band or something?  Most people who love classical music developed the love through playing it, themselves.

Heh, the other three of your interests are cool, too.  I just feel like I'm getting obsessive here.  ^.^

I've got two books half written, so the writing is also cool.  And the gaming and horror movies are cool, too ... although, I'm trying to cut down on the gaming, so I have more free time to work on the writing and my standup material.

Anyway, welcome to the site.  We should have a few groups around here that you'll like.
