Hey Ruth! I want to read that book "Religion for Atheists" but I need to order it from Amazon and I won't be able to actually start it until the semester is over. Finals are coming up soon. I think it will make for a great discussion in the group Religion for Atheists.
I'm not sure about the poo analogy (although delightful in its way!), but vigorously agree that arguing scripture is pretty dumb, and irrelevant, as is tossing a coin over which god is the worst, or which fundamentalists are most poisonous.
Thanks so much for welcome message, much appreciated.
Thanks Ruth! I'll be sure to check out the Hang With Friends group along with the other thousand or so (wow there are so many!). Do you guys have a lot of comedy videos in your group?
As an inactive member of Athiest Nexus, I wondered why you are bothering me with illogical comments. How about YOU start a conversation on whatever topics your heart desires?
Thanks for the info, Ruth. I have been interested in the origin of life and evolution since I read a chemistry book on chemical evolution when I was around 15 years old. I did my undergrad work in zoology and got my PhD in chemistry working in a molecular genetics lab. I was trained as a protein biochemist by Russell Doolittle, the renowned expert on protein evolution. Those were the days. We had a world class journal club focusing on the origin of life with Professor Stan Miller, remember the famous Miller experiments in the 50s, and Dr. Orgel from the Salk. It was Orgel who wrote the book on the origin of life that I read when I was 15 years old.--Ed Shipwash
Thanks for the welcome, Ruth. I am swamped with work & activism, but I really appreciated the invitation to check out the feminist sites. Will head there now. Thanks!

Thanks so much for the welcome guys.
I'm planning on getting stuck-in here.
Yes--they look like "stealth links" to me too. :) Something messed up, I guess?
Thanks for the welcome and tips, Ruth (my sister's name too!)! I saw Alain's TED talk and liked a lot of his ideas--how is the book so far?

Thank you for the kind welcome, Ruth.
I probably will not be so active as I would like; gardening season is beginning!
Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. I look forward to future discussions here.
Nice to meet you, Ruth! I appreciate the warm welcome, and look forward to becoming an active member of this rational community!
