Hey Ruth! I want to read that book "Religion for Atheists" but I need to order it from Amazon and I won't be able to actually start it until the semester is over. Finals are coming up soon. I think it will make for a great discussion in the group Religion for Atheists.

I'm not sure about the poo analogy (although delightful in its way!), but vigorously agree that arguing scripture is pretty dumb, and irrelevant, as is tossing a coin over which god is the worst, or which fundamentalists are most poisonous.

Thanks for the info, Ruth. I have been interested in the origin of life and evolution since I read a chemistry book on chemical evolution when I was around 15 years old. I did my undergrad work in zoology and got my PhD in chemistry working in a molecular genetics lab. I was trained as a protein biochemist by Russell Doolittle, the renowned expert on protein evolution.  Those were the days. We had a world class journal club focusing on the origin of life with Professor  Stan Miller, remember the famous Miller experiments in the 50s, and Dr.  Orgel from the Salk. It was Orgel who wrote the book on the origin of life that I read when I was 15 years old.--Ed Shipwash
