As it comes to Eric Whitacre's music, I still think one of the best performances is the first, by the BYU Singers under Ronald Straheli.  The CD that really got Eric big attention was the Hyperion release with Polyphony, "Cloudburst."  Eric himself has conducted two CDs, "Light and Gold" and "Water Night," that second released yesterday in coordination with Virtual Choir 3.0.  "Water Night is notable for its inclusion of a number of orchestral works, including settings of Eric's choral pieces for orchestra.

I haven't even mentioned Eric's work for wind ensemble, which would include his Ghost Train Triptych and his tongue-in-cheek Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, but we can deal with that another day!

Be advised: I have all three Virtual Choirs posted in Classical Masters.  There are also maybe one or two other of Eric's works there as well.  If you would like CD recommendations, give a shout!

Thanks for the friend request.

No, I'm actually not a mormon. My mom once said that I had the 'choice' of my religious denomination when I left home, and that she was basically just introducing me to Jesus, God, etc. So I just say that I'm an ex-Christian,  and no offense towards your family or anything, but I consider the mormon faith to be complete nonsense.

I really want to get away from Utah though! I hate the culture here, and I hate seeing an LDS church every square mile. Utah is depressing, and I really hope that I can go to Colorado for college and escape this place of five child families and mormon culture!!! When I leave, I don't think I'll ever want to come back. There's no chance I'm going to live in Utah for the rest of my life!

Alas  my dear friend they are are not all as enlightened as I. Please be patient with the human race we are working on it. Our numbers of enlightened humans are growing. It took several thousands of years to get to this point. I hope it does not take that long to undo what our religious tyrannical leaders have done. We have the power of the internet and science. They have the power of ignorance and slothfulness.  I would say that the scales are tipping in our favor.

Hey, Tony!

Fact is, I'm no hot-shot researcher, just a former field service engineer who learned a ways back that you either have the goods or you don't, and that if you don't have the goods in front of the CUSTOMER ... then you are in, shall we say, DEEP SNEAKERS.  It's one reason I prefer science - the great majority of the time, they got the goods.  The bible-thumpers?  Not so much.

Oh, BTW, re: your pic - that's NEVER gonna heal if you keep picking at it!  [grin!]

Thank you Tony! We must present a united front in opposition to Vogon Poetry.  Free speech is free speech,  but Vogon poety is an abomination.

It seems I knew less about Hawking radiation than I thought. You might find this interesting.

Because energy cannot be created out of nothing, one of the partners in a particle/antiparticle pair will have positive energy, and the other partner negative energy. The one with negative energy is condemned to be a short-lived virtual particle because real particles always have positive energy in normal situations. It must therefore seek out its partner and annihilate with it. However, a real particle close to a massive body has less energy than if it were far away, because it would take energy to lift it far away against the gravitational attraction of the body. Normally, the energy of the particle is still positive, but the gravitational field inside a black hole is so strong that even a real particle can have negative energy there. It is therefore possible, if a black hole is present, for the virtual particle with negative energy to fall into the black hole and become a real particle or antiparticle. In this case it no longer has to annihilate with its partner. Its forsaken partner may fall into the black hole as well. Or, having positive energy, it might also escape from the vicinity of the black hole as a real particle or antiparticle. To an observer at a distance, it will appear to have been emitted from the black hole. The smaller the black hole, the shorter the distance the particle with negative energy will have to go before it becomes a real particle, and thus the greater the rate of emission, and the apparent temperature, of the black hole.

Your last comment in Geek & Nerd Haven seemed to still not notice the difference between charge (+ or -) and matter vs antimatter. You can have an ion of matter which is either positively or negatively charged.
