Nexus has many ways for members to be involved, make friends, learn, and express yourself. The welcome center is composed of Nexus volunteers, sort of like greeters at your favorite store.
Get to know people with similar interests by searching on Groups. Use the search box on the Groups page, or browse through the many pages of groups, to see what's there. There are Nexus groups for various states, cities, countries, ideas of personal expression, hobbies, and many other groups. Get to know people based on what you enjoy, or what you have in common with others.
To find local groups and make friends or chat, Meetup.com is a great place to locate groups or start one. (note, Meetup is not connected to AN). Join Meetup and search on a key word, such as atheist, atheism, skeptics, freethought, to see if there is a local group.
Support nexus by going to Amazon.com through the site (see the amazon box on the right). Buying from Amazon via the Nexus site does not increase your cost, but results in a small fee going to Nexus.
Terms of service helps you know the "rules". You can also find the TOS on the bottom right of the main screen.

Hi Ullrich and welcome to this wonderful world of atheist truth and peace.
We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with 580 discussion topics and nearly 3200 members. http://www.atheistnexus.org/group/originsuniverselifehumankindanddarwin Terry
Thanks, Ullrich. Though I often use Palul MacLean's language of the primitive brains, I can't figure out to which photo you refer. Memetics means a lot to me.
About your comment on carvepumpkincat. LOL, after I'm dead the cat's welcome to eat what's left. Why care? I'm donating my body to a medical school. There's nothing sacred, to me, in my leftover husk. Whatever effect I had, it was through actions, or inactions. The corpse is good only for recycling.
i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…
I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…
This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

Ongoing forum discussions are of more general interest than the groups. Switch toforum categories for a somewhat organized format.
