I am a United Methodist atheist.  I don't believe any of the shit, but I enjoy the church people and they are my friends and I don't care that they believe that shit. I just don't tell anybody I don't believe the shit, and I enjoy the people and stuff and singing in the choir. Why shouldn't I?

getting cynical over time. thinking of them as bad dna code with insidious transcription that turns them into viruses. born again means taken over by the viral instructions. you cannot reason with them as it is not a matter of intelligence. there is just something awfully wrong with them, like horrible genetic diseases such as huntington's syndrome.

research for a cure or deprogramming treatment?

How are you AP?

Since I sign up, I have been reading and thinking about religion more. The direction of my thinking seems to have shifted from total rejection of any religion or religious idea, to understanding how religious ideas can offer insight into human fears, motivation, and the socio-basis for delusion. I credit T Eagleton' Yale lecture (Faith, Reason, and Revolution), his response to the likes of Hitchen and Dawkins. This sympathic appreciation seems to have strengthened my atheist stance more.

What kind of experince have you had, AP, in the last year that has shaped your atheist stance, and how?
