You Navy? I was , too. Thanks for comment. I guess I sometimes post just to air things about being in odd positions. I am smack in the middle of bible belt and I don't really want to be ostracized at work. I know those people are just trying to show support because they like me and my wife. It's just that their way of doing it is strange to me. My personal situation requires 'grin and bear it' I think. I'm just glad to have a place to discuss these things finally!

The guitar is 1985 Roland G-707 Synth controller. A friend gave it to me after his buddy found it in a barn! It was rough, too. Looked like someone had driven stakes in the ground with it.HAHA. Originally black. I do auto body work on the side and I had some Ford Sandalwood (Gold) and clear, so I just took it down and painted it. Came out real nice. I alternate playing it and my old MIM strat(1991). People in clubs flip out over the Roland. I tell em it's a 'space guitar' HAHA. My 20 year old son and I call it C3PO. Really proud of the strat, though. That thing is a beast and I got a couple really cool sigs on it. Rick Derringer, Jeff Cook, and Adrian Belew!

Well, I hope you will be able to handle going back without your eyerolls giving you a migrane. :-)

I do not miss the religiosity rampant back in the bible belt. I get enough of that from family in Winter when I visit. Sorry for the late reply. I don't have E-mail notifications sent from this site.

I told her if she really thought you were religious you didn't know him at all. They still force me to go to church and such.

Mom knows I do not believe in God, im not one to hide it. Me and her had a conversation about it, she was like "most of what you believe is coming from your dad" and i said "i was non theist befor he told me he was" And then she went all "God can do amazing things in your life" And i said "i can do amazing things in my life." then i walked away and she told me she would pray for me. I told her it was wrong the christians thought talking to themselves helped people. She responded to the whole cituation well. It really got devins panties in a bunch. He told me i would never find piece in life, and that the reason im depressed was cause i didnt have god in my life, i told him the reason i was depressed was a little bit more complex than that. Neither one of them are mad. Mom said "Your dad was a christian until resently when he got mad at god." And i said "hes read the bible, he knows what he believes in, and thats what matters" Then mom said you havnt read the bible" And i asked her how she would possibly know that. Then she got all offensive. It was an interesting conversation, made me realiize how much common sense people lack.

Not sure really why he thought my animals had evil spirits. I have heard from others that 'The Endtimers' have these beliefs. But, for me, this guy is the only one of the followers I have actually spoken to for any length of time. So based on this, I am not sure if it is his membership to this church or for some other reason.
Congrats. on the 'Navy Chaplin'. I am sure you assisted in some way. Even if it was just to open the door to reexamination.
There are definitely Atheist in Lake City. I encounter an atheist about every couple of months or so. They really pop out of the woodwork when a certain topic stimulates their reaction.
My daughter recently got married. And, I couldn't be more proud. For starters; My daughter and her new husband are both Atheist. His parents, two brothers and one of the wives are all Atheist. So getting together over the weekend is a blast! And, all of us can talk up a storm about Atheist speakers, shows and events without any ill effects.
In fact, when I went to the wedding it was about 95% Atheist. Loved it!
I too went through a deep depression after my divorce. That was in 2002. And, in 2003 he took his life. Which toppled me over again. It is amazing how much can be lost due to depression. It took a couple of years to rebuild my life. Now I am happy and certainly not complaining.

Hello, North Florida Atheist ;)

We are here! As you already know, I am an Atheist. An open Atheist. It can be difficult here in this part of the woods as the natives are insane god fearing mouth pieces. I do find myself continuously having to explain why I am moral and that I am not a satan worshiper as they seem to suggest... Unfortunately, for them, the land prices and for those whom love the outdoors, this area is a haven. Bringing in Atheist such as myself. Pooey on them!

Little story... About 4 years ago I had a metal roof installed. About half way through the installation I was speaking with the foreman. He began proselytizing to me. He was concerned about my animals. As he felt they were harboring evil spirits. I asked him what church he belonged to, where he replied; that he was the usher for the Meade Industries church here in Lake City. Fearing for the professionalism in my roof installation I kept quiet. Upon the end of the installation I informed him of my none belief. He was incredibly confused. As he couldn't figure out how such a nice person could be so nice without god. We had a few hour conversation upon my announcement of being an Atheist. I honestly feel he was quite engaged with my honesty. I apologized to him for not being forefront prior to the end of my roof installation. Explaining to him that Atheist do at times deal with prejudice attitudes. Where I had to be cautious.

Though, I have frequent encounters such as the above, this one in particular sticks out as to my animals having evil spirits and the way in which I handled the situation. Normally I am quite open with my Atheism from the beginning.
