So often people try to suppose what some historical figures might think, say, or do were they alive in current times. And this is especially true in the ongoing debates on separation of church and state, atheism versus theism, and science versus religion. It seems in these debates no people are invoked in this way more than the Founding Fathers and Charles Darwin.

To take someone like Charles Darwin, who lived in the 1800s, and suppose one might know how he would respond to anything in modern times is a bit absurd. The world has certainly changed considerably since his time. And no doubt, he would barely recognize the current religious climate were he reincarnated today. (Did I just do what I was complaining about? Not exactly.)
