Hello everyone!

You may want to know why I am here. I am not really sure. I consider myself to be a former Catholic girl. I guess most of you are former Christians, Muslims, Jews etc. as well. So you will get why I am interested in meeting people I can have discussions about religion with. But that is not the only reason. I am stunned at how people reacted to me being no longer Catholic. I thought I was surrounded with tolerant, progressive and accepting people who couldn't care less if I believe in a God or not. I was wrong, unfortunately. People would say: "That is just a phase!" or "Oh, we all have our tough moments!". Noone asked WHY. Noone cared WHY. Noone wanted to KNOW. Maybe that is the reason I am on here after all - to find people who will ask WHY.

nice girl, I am interested in your story of why you left. Each of our stories may be different; there are a lot of questions we ask ourselves and each other. Over time, a sense of belonging to this virtual community grows. It is different than a church affiliation, but, for me, it has been far more satisfying and enriching. I discovered I could be moral without god, my purpose in life is to participate in living, working, belonging, thinking, and enjoying life. There is no god directing my thinking or acting or watching over me. There is nothing that hears prayers or intervenes or restores lost limbs. The emphasis on love and the notion that god is a loving god and the scriptures tell of god's power are just simply myths. Jeez! talk about delusions.

All that said, welcome to the community of people who have found no credible evidence that god, jeezus, heaven, or hell exist.

I understand. I also left religion, though long ago. My wife left me and tried to take my children (Which she did not do) because of this. My parents have never been the same toward me since I told them. It I hard, but I could not, would not live any other way. Send a message my way if you need to reach out. Life has recovered for me, but it takes a lot of work.

"Tough moments," yeah.  Moments when the facts just seem to outweigh the dogma ... mostly because they DO, yet no one around you is willing to admit that the emperor doesn't have a stitch on him.  That's why this place exists, nice girl, because we figured it out, each of us in our own way, and the above-mentioned potentate don't like that very much, to which we collectively say, "tough shit."

Greets and welcome to Atheist Nexus.  We're glad you found us!

I'm not ex-religious.  But this site can help ex-religious people a lot.

I heard Christianity called a "huge cult" by someone from http://new.exchristian.net/.

That seems appropriate.  A whole bunch of huge cults.  The world's most successful cult.

Hi nice girl, We may not ask you why either  mainly  because  we know why....This  is the reason  we are all here now....Religion  let us all down.....We wanted  to believe  but  some of the tales in the bible  are so  out there...Science has  answered so many  questions which  have helped  us  all understand  where we came from...Unfortunately  Theists  are in denial and suffer  from  tunnel vision....They will need  more time and some deprogramming  since  religion is  cult like...and  since  it took  years of force feeding them  from early  childhood  to  adulthood it may take  some time  to  help them see the light.
