Today I heard about a single mother who got so fed up with her son playing video games all night that she called the cops on him!! She actually dialed an emergency number and had the police come to parent her son!

I have heard so many STUPID, RECKLESS misuses of 911, from a wrong fast food order to videos games apparently, it's just unbelievable. Do people really think that we have unlimited emergency resources? Do people really believe they can call 911 over such trivial matters?

I worked in security as an operator, I had to constantly make contact with the police, ambulance etc... It just makes me furious when people misuse emergency services. I don't think most people realize how difficult it is to prioritize and take care of people in REAL need of help along with crap like this.

Maybe she shouldn't have had 4 kids if she can't handle parenting!!!!!!!!!!! Pathetic, I have no sympathy, this is one of the stupidest things I've heard and I hope she has to pay for the misuse of services, just like everyone else, mother or not.

And a word to the wise, don't have kids if you can't handle them, I'm a little annoyed at the notion people seem to have, that having kids isn't a choice and everyone around you should just have to deal with the consequences, for most it IS and if you can't handle that it's YOUR problem, not mine and not the cops. Really, lets stop all the breeding already, it's expected by everyone and look what happens, we get a mother with 4 kids and people are throwing her a bunch of sympathy because of it. SORRY, NONE FROM ME!

You choose to have sex, you choose to accept the possible consequences! period!

Looks like another one here. I don't think it's the same woman, because this one mentions a husband, but she has also called 911 30 times recently for nonsense. Seems they will be prosecuting her.

hmm... you may have served better to try positive reinforcement, Glenn. Negative reinforcement is only used effectively as a last line of defense and on few occasions.

When you start taking away thing after thing, kids build up a tolerance for disappointment and eventually it may fail completely. That's certainly what happened to me.

A friend of mine has a sound theory that Walmart plays recordings of screaming children over the PA.

It's our fault, really. Atheists, I mean. We got rid of God, so parents can't call on him anymore when their kids get out of hand.

Johnny, a small correction: The papal bullshit is contracontraception.

And a lake fire is no more unbelievable than a river fire, though since the Clean Water Act, it's a lot less likely.

Both my kids were soccer players. One winter, when nothing else worked and we had taken everything else away, we took soccer away from our son (indoor, etc.) We promised that we would never do that to ourselves again.

If I may...I do have a couple kids (17 and 18 years) and what I see is the real problem is parents need to realize, when you punish your kids, unfortunately, you may have to be part of the punishment and therefore be punished yourself. If the kid knows you're willing to skip out on something that's important to you (the parent) to carry through with the punishment, they usually take it much more seriously (because it can take more than a few minutes, trust me). Unfortunately, not many parents are willing to walk out of a restaurant or special event and miss it in order to show the kids they mean business. As a bonus, many kids will respect the parent more, knowing you're willing to go through the same hardship.

"I will send them straight to that 911 story and tell them you don't need any credentials to be a parent so it doesn't matter ;)"

"well you believe that we magically jumped from dirt when skydaddy blew on you. want to talk believability? I win =P "

BWAHAHAHAHA, You just made my day a hell of a lot better with those comments lol, can I borrow some of your quick wit to use on my in laws? hahaha, oh yeah, that'd be a GREAT idea!! :p
