You are on point, Tara. Also, for these reasons, and the fact that to kill someone as punishment for killing someone, is reasons why this type of punishment should be stopped. This type of punishment, in my view, is wrong, and has not proven to work in deterring crime.

It's a sad reality of American society.  White people (particularly wealthy ones) fare much better in the justice system than do non-white people.   Likewise missing white children get weeks, even months, of national attention while missing non-white children rarely warrant more than a day or two of coverage in their local news.   It's sick and wrong.
