Westboro Baptist Church Plans to Picket Funerals of the Eight Avalanche Victims in Fernie, BC

Those … well, there’s no cuddly way to say it. Those bastards at the Westboro Baptist Church are at it again. On Monday, eight men were killed in an avalanche in Fernie, BC while enjoying a day of snowmobiling. Fred Phelps and his band of deluded psychos wasted no time and issued this press release (page is a pdf) that same day. I strongly encourage any able person in the area of Fernie to show up to this sick funeral protest and act as a buffer zone between the WBC and the funeral attenders. The families and friends of these men have lost enough without having to endure this ridiculous display of hatred.

You know the Westboro Church supports "Fag enablers" they have no choice.
They think they are doing God's work?....
God also "hates the world" so I don't know why they see themselves as the exception, "They" being the exception, would be more likely if they were members of the "Elite Family" which they aren't, It would be more likely if the where Zionists, but they aren't so it looks like they're on the same boat or "FEMA Train" as the rest of us, it will be funny when they see who their "GOD" REALLY IS! .....

He may come in the form of Martial Law, the NAU, and then they better brace themselves for NWO, I'm sure they'll love their "God" then. They don't even know who they worship?

"Freddy's" daughter has the disposition of an abused, deranged individual. It's not hard to see.

How could they? Monsters, first the troops now this?! My best friend's brother was one of those "fag" soldiers, he is alive though but still. They disgust me so badly who's next in this delusional conquest?

I live in Canada now. Several years back they came with their signs to protest when the country first legalized same sex marriage. Their signs were confiscated at the border so they improvised by using Canadian flags, turning them upside down and writing their messages. Not as crisp and clean as their usual signs, but...

From what I understand, they were made to leave and advised they would be arrested if they returned. Canada doesn't cling to the notion of Freedom of Speech with such a death grip as America. I'm still not sure what I think about that aspect of it. I do know that my family makes these press releases more for the shock value then for any real intention to come and picket.

I recently met a young man from Vancouver while driving a taxi. He mentioned my family while I was driving him to the airport and I introduced myself to him. This chance meeting led to an interview which became an award winning article at UBC: http://www.ubyssey.ca/?p=5624

This in turn has led to an invitation to speak at the National Convention of the American Athiests in Atlanta this April. I'm looking forward to lending some new insight into the dynamics of that situation.

I'm from another part of Kansas than these folks. These people are absolutely bonkers. No intelligent life there. I hope they didn't get to protest in Canada.

L Pat Williams - I could easily delete your comment but I won't because it stands as a fine example of what we as atheists deal with on a daily basis. As Dallas Gaytheist put it, you don't see us posting anti-Christian sentiments on Christian sites. Why? Because even though we disagree with your belief systems we acknowledge your right to believe anything you want. It's nice for those of us who are alone in our atheism to have a place to come and communicate with others who hold our viewpoints without someone like you popping in to spit out a list of evils against us. I sincerely hope you find something better to do with your time.

L Pat Williams: More important than freedom of speech is quality and truthfullness in speech. You possess neither of these things.

You ask us to prove things, but I would ask of you: Prove to me that Jesus Christ lived, that there is a God, and that you are not just spouting nonsense. You can't.

Atheist Nexus is for atheist who want the freedom to discuss their views without being proselytized by the likes of you. I don't join xtian sites and proselytize xtians. You are precisely the kind of person we are raging against here, and you don't even realize it.

I'm just waiting for them to find out that Denmark was the first country to allow same-sex partnerships (civil, the church is still anti ) but such registered partnerships are referred to as marriages in everyday speech. Just let 'em come over here and they'll.......probably be ignored to death or arrested for being a public nuisance. On the other hand, there is a radical anarchist youth movement that would love to tear them apart. There is also the possibility that fundamentalist Muslims would turn out in support of the WBC. Wouldn't that make a nice picture? Don't be fooled folks: al Qaeda is just the KKK in turbans, "W" is another mullah etc. They all need each other to justify their own existence. That's why we're important. We're the little boy who sees that the Emperor is naked.
Any of this make sense? I'm on CET, so it's way past my bedtime. I'm just staying up to listen to Nigel Kennedy's jazz quintet on the radio.
Happy New Year!!
