Yes, I watched and heard the President give his inaugeral address. It was good--and inspiring. But....

I just don't have any faith in the probability of his goals becoming a reality. Normally, I'm fairly optimistic. Not now.

Gun control? Doubtful. Global warming halted? No way. Immigration reform? Ha. Education improved? We'll see. Political parties compatable and compromising? Big joke.

Call me a cynic. I just don't see them (and much more) happening. At least, I'm not holding my breath. For most of my life I've fought for change and progress. I've tried to "do my part". However, I'm tired of the rhetoric, the bickering, the stupidity, the "red neck" atmosphere, etc. of our society--its people and government. The fight is out of me.

I'm not proud that I'm sticking my head in the sand, but for my own sanity and blood pressure, I'm "on sabbatical", on the sidelines. I'll just watch the proceedings with a wait and see attitude. No sense in getting my drawers in a bind. Life is short. Enjoy.

Global warming is already on the decline.  For instance, the UN has announced that the ozone holes are no longer growing and should be restored by mid this century.  Despite, the political opposition technology is getting greener.  Global temp has only gone up about 2 degrees celsius in about 60 years and if you were to compare global warming vs. technology growth you'd be more optimistic.  I'm an electrical engineering student, and I can tell you that solar development and alternative energy solutions are really being focused on.

I'm a little more cynical about gun control, but every time there's a tragedy like Newtown the country moves a little more to the left on the issue.  I would say the President Obama is smart enough to see the trends and wants to get behind the winning side so he looks better in the history books.

But all in all, if you're truly exhausted from the fight, take a little bit of solace in knowing that there are those of us that are ready to take the reins and we're grateful that those like you have prepared the way for us.

I hear you.  I hope those who are secularist and raising children hear you too.  When the empathy of money supported by ideology of religious belief trumps the common good of the land you see what you see today.
