This Old House

I bought my current house in January, 1977. That was 36 years ago. I had two kids, ages 1 and 3. It was a much bigger house than the one I came from, but cheaper because it was older and needed some work.

Originally, this was a "farm house" with barns and 80 acres. It's a standard square building with 4 bedrooms on the second floor, full basement and livable "attic". It was built in 1913 with something around 3200 sq. ft.--way too big for one person (wife and kids all gone now).

But, I'll never leave--at least not on my own accord. I've spent over half my life here. I've remodeled, added, deleted, converted, subverted all parts of the house. Landscape, too. I got to thinking about that as I was working in the basement the other day, adding suspended shelving from the ceiling. I looked around and said to myself, I certainly have done a lot of work and "improvement". (A new owner might tear it all down!) The longer I live here, the more "stuff" I accumulate, thereby needing more storage space (hence the shelves). I can't ever leave. What will become of my "history"?!
