Today being the celebration of our independence, I thought I'd share this clip of the original version of the Pledge of Allegiance:

As I'm sure all of you know, the original version did not include the "under god" portion. I myself stopped saying those two words in fifth grade, and it earned me a trip to the principals office (looking back on it, it's funny...at the time, I was terrified). And now that my son is about that exact age, he has started (unprompted by me...I've never told him that story) placing his hand over his mouth instead of over his heart for those two words. What can I say...I'm his co-creator...he never really had a chance.

If the government can just edit the Pledge anyway they feel like it, what's to stop them from changing the "with Liberty and Justice for ALL" to "with Liberty and Justice for SOME".  Or how about "one nation under a groove".  Just some food for thought...

One of my grandkids ask me if they had to say "under god" when they recited the pledge and I told them they could just substitute the word "law" for "god" - it would make more sense and be more correct.
