Here's a very interesting read that talks about natural selection that has occurred in under 40 years. This is amazing support for evolution and how quickly a species can adapt for its very survival.

The monitor is actually a very well respected publication. 7 Pulitzer prizes and very objective reporting. Thanks for your comments.
Thank you for posting the story and link. It's very interesting in several ways.
First - it is a great example of selective pressure and evolution, at least on the microevolution level. Demonstrates a small change that leads to adaptation of the species to a lethal substance.
Second, the story has environmental impacts. As far as managing cockroaches, using a single substance such as the poison bait, leads to adaptation of the species. An adaptable, multifactorial approach is better. If we could train mice to eat roaches, we would have an interesting situation.
3rd, that this article is in the Christian Science Monitor makes me pause. I would not have expected that.
