In a recent visit to London, the Holy Vicar of Christ continues with the past lies of the Catholic Church, continues to shirk the responsibility of his Church, and continues to spread misconceptions that are obviously false.
One of his invaluable quotes was, “Without the corrective supplied by religion, though, reason too can fall prey to distortions, as when it is manipulated by ideology, or applied in a partial way that fails to take full account of the dignity of the human person. Such misuse of reason, after all, was what gave rise to the slave trade in the first place and to many other social evils, not least the totalitarian ideologies of the twentieth century.” I take this quote from the entire speech found here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/the-pope/800988....
Let’s confront this first. Religion has brought little or nothing to Reason. Reason and secular values were what ended religious tyranny and brought the Christian, at least, religion into the modern era, NOT the other way around. Let us not also forget that der Führer’s and il Duce’s respective regimes were closely allied with the Catholic Church, and that reason is not by any means what led to Hitler’s totalitarian regime, much less to the Holocaust. I don’t know, maybe centuries of anti-Semitic preaching from the Catholic pulpits might have helped with the persecution of Jews?
I now would like to note some of the other sick aspects of the dear pope:
1) He believes (or should, if he accepts his own religion’s teachings) that he is infallible and that he represents Christ on Earth. What type of deluded individual could accept such an appointment? Who could say that he is prepared to be infallible and to represent the god himself? A sick individual indeed.
2) He has not removed the doctrine that Catholics are not allowed to use contraception in any form. When one considers the number of Catholics in the HIV-ravaged continent of Africa, one can only assume that he wants these people to contract HIV. He could use his influence to remove such a stupid prohibition against condoms and help be part of the solution; instead he is a huge part of the problem.
3) He has repeatedly equated the child-raping priests to homosexuals. Obviously to him, homosexuality and pedophilia are equated. He ignores science and empirical data. But should any of us be surprised by this?
I could continue, but I will close by saying that any person who calls her- or himself a Catholic should be ready to face the scrutiny and to respond to actions of the supreme leader of their Church. If they are uncomfortable with this, maybe they should not call themselves Catholics.
