The Catholic Church is Nucking Futs

Several months ago, we witnessed a tragic spectacle in the news: a nine-year old Brazilian girl was raped, became pregnant, and got an abortion…and the Brazilian Catholic church responded by excommunicating all the participants. One cleric in Rome, Monsignor Rino Fisichella, said the church had been insensitive,(at the very minimum) but no one in the hierarchy stepped forward to outright condemn the heartlessness of the church's stance and the unfairness of the policy.
The next time I hear about the compassion of the Vatican I’m going to blow chunks all over the messengers shirt.

A couple of weeks before my father died his very catholic sister came by an announced she had made arrangements for a priest to come by to see him. My dad responded by saying he wished she hadn't because in would be an imposition on his sons. His sister demanded to know why it would be an imposition, to which he replied, "Because I'm to weak and I'd have to ask them to throw the son of a bitch out."

You wanna know what pisses me off? It's not just the actions of the Catholic church in this situation. My dad, who is not Catholic, agreed with them in this situation. My dad is ardently anti-abortion.

The height of the Roman Catholic Church and the Dark Ages didn't happen at the same time by accident. Hopefully due to the whole celibacy thing it will die off like the Shakers. They're some parishes closing here in Massachusetts because they don't have the priests. All the parochial schools are basically devoid of any nuns now too. (When I was nine I had one old sadistic bitch - Sister Claire Angela - I can just see her wicked witch face now - beat me with a yardstick for accidentally knocking a bookshelf over.) The end of that over-sized cult with their "semi-god on earth" pope can't end soon enough for me (as with all religions). And this from a former alter boy. (Although I remember the alter wine was quite tasty when you swigged it right out of the bottle. - Ahhh, the memories... I mean Ooouuch!)

I'm glad that others have the same feeling about mother Theresa. She was not saint, poverty was her own special porn. These people are into pain, despair, poverty. Anyone sane would call it hate. It's certainly exploitation. Damn, now my blood pressure is up again. Arrggh.

Daniel, No, I don't believe the catholic clergy believes it's own horseshit. Everything they do..everything any religion does... is to gain control of the minds, property, and wealth of the ignorant masses, who have been kept ignorant by the church...round and round we go. Mother Teresa was a sick, twisted old hag with a definate sadistic streak. There. I said it! Joey...I'm not aware of any religion that dosn't hate women. The cruelest irony of all is that many female members of the most fundamental sects/cults are the most vocal and active in perpetuating the abuse.

Ugh. The Pharyngula thread rendered me utterly speechless when I read it. (Hey catholics, is that a miracle?)
How the hell anyone can justify follwing these people is beyond my ability to comprehend.
Even if they don't want to get out of religion entirely, at least go for one of the nicer ones that don't hate women.
The really obnoxious part at reading it at Pharyngula was these are the same people that considered it a hate crime when PZ nailed a cracker to a book.

@Daniel: It's far easier to get people to convert when they're in a constant state of fear because of violence, poverty, disease, famine, etc.
That's why rather than build water filtration systems in third world countries, they tell them to stop using condoms.
I think Mother Teresa summed their attitude up the best when she said:
"The suffering of the poor is something very beautiful and the world is being very much helped by the nobility of this example of misery and suffering,"

The Catholic church actually gets my vote for worst religion in the world. No other religion has caused the amount of damage they have. Though Hindus probably run a close second with the whole Dalit thing.

Here is someone who has similar sentiments. If you page down, you'll also see a video that will piss you off. If it weren't for the Baptists, Mormons, Evangelicals, Muslims, and Hindus, I'd say catholicism was the most evil religion in the world. Still, it's part of the top 10.

As I say whenever I get a chance, for some reason the Catholic church controls governments and tries to control more, spreads poverty, despair, ignorance, violence, and other evils, and destroys the environment. Why the fuck do they do that? Is it about power? Do they really beleive their on horseshit? Is it a form of instutitionalized psychosis? I don't get it. Why spread evil, misery, and destruction? What do they get from it?
