The Atheist Bus

After about 10 hours the campaign reached its goal and by the second day it had run seven fold the original expected contributions reaching US$ 113.000; it was a surprising result to organizers and participants alike and without precedent for the atheist community. The money will be administered by The British Humanist Association to finance an ad campaign on the side of the London public transportation buses with the message: “There's probably no God, Now stop worrying and enjoy your life”. Te initiative is the brainchild of the comedy writer Ariane Sherine who after observing the advertisement of different religious organizations on the public transportation system, decided to try a similar approach to express the atheist point of view and show an alternative way of thought regarding the existence of god. The campaign is the latest manifestation of a growing movement of active members of the atheist community to get out their point of view, in what can be compared to the beginnings of the struggle that gay and lesbians had to endure some years ago to establish a position of freedom in some western societies.

El Bus Ateísta: Aproximadamente 10 horas después del comienzo de la campaña se había alcanzado la meta y dos días mas tarde el total de lo colectado era 7 veces lo esperado con un total de US$ 113.000; fue un resultado inesperado tanto para organizadores como participantes y un resultado sin precedente en la comunidad ateísta. El dinero sera administrado por la Sociedad Humanista Británica para financiar una campaña publicitaria consistente en letreros ubicados en los costados de los buses de transporte público Londinense con el mensaje: “Probablemente dios no existe. Despreocupese y disfrute de su vida”. La iniciativa nació de la mente de Ariane Sherine que, luego de observar los avisos publicitarios de diferentes organizaciones religiosas en el sistema de transporte publico, decidió intentar una estrategia similar para sacar a la luz pública el punto de vista ateo y un modo de pensamiento alternativo con respecto a la existencia de dios. La campaña es la ultima en una cadena de manifestaciones de una creciente y activa comunidad atea para exponer su punto de vista, algo que tal vez comparable al comienzo de la lucha en que gays y lesbianas tuvieron que participar algunos años atrás para establecer una posición de libertad en algunas sociedades occidentales.
