I dont describe myself directly as an Atheist, I describe myself as open minded and logical, if I was alive a thousand years ago I might believe in a God because at the time it might have been the logical thing to believe but now its quite clear there is no supreme power , there is no heaven and there is no hell. Im just wondering how many of you out there are just agnostic, open minded people like me rather then just Atheists because of a different reason.

Telch Grogan, I am Atheist, there is evidence to support atheism.

this nagging doubt that there possibly is something.

Felch's word rings true for me from the end of high school to my late 30's. I definitely believed man created the gods and religions but I thought there might be something. It was around ten years ago I finally came to the conclusion that there's just no proof for the existence of something.

I also second the notion that if any of the atheist pantload purists here tell you you're some kind of second-class member, laugh in their pompous faces.

Ask yourself a simple question - given that there is no credible evidence of god(s) that you have seen, what is your position ?

a) I have to assume that god does not exist given the information I have

b) Though there is no evidence to support me, I am not prepare to assume that god does not exist

Position a) would make you an atheist, but it in no way is a categorical statement that you believe there is no such thing as god or ever will be. You merely have no evidence and are taking the sensible position. Should evidence arise tomorrow, you are intelligent and open minded enough to not let your prior assumptions bias your thinking and you will re-evaluate your position.

Position b) would make you an agnostic (though to my bigoted and narrow minded perception, I'd slap a deist sticker on your forehead). You have no evidence of any kind to justify your "maybe there is" uncertainty. For lack of evidence, the only thing that is left to actually support your doubts can be faith. Certainly, not the faith of a believer, but still faith - this nagging doubt that there possibly is something. This doubt cannot be arrived at by reason alone.

Above all else, don't be hasty to apply labels to yourself. There are way too many people around that are way too full of shit that will want to tell you what you're supposed to think. Don't take them seriously. In fact laugh at them and defleate their pompous asses.

You could always just do what I do and just stick with freethinker, or even apatheist.

Different reasons could range from having bad expierences or just because you want to be a rebel, not saying either of these are the case just wondering what the case is.
