I often come across the occasional "smart" creationist, who has either some degree of study in some scientific field but still "incorporates their faiths" and beliefs into their degree of choice. They claim that science itself is a testament of god's wonder, and that science actually complements the existence of god.

The argument they often ASSAULT me with the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics as if they believe  I have no idea what they are -__-, which sometimes pisses me off, because i am proud of my studies.

Now lets debunk these laws quickly for these "smart-asses."

1st Law- NOw for those of you who don't know, the 1st law of thermodynamics is a law defining the conservation of energy (heat, matter, a creationists brain...all that good stuff). It states that:

"ENERGY (MATTER) CANNOT BE CREATED NOR DESTROYED, BUT ONLY CONVERTED FROM ONE FORM TO ANOTHER."

Creationists attempt to use this to attack the big bang theory (they fail immensely when they come upon someone who actually KNOWS the big bang theory) and try to use some screwed up logic to say this proves a god. Now debunking this is easy. Firstly, as with all laws of thermodynamics, it is only applicable to CLOSED systems. Meaning a state of isolation from the surrounding environment. I will state an example. ALL objects when fallen from a particular height, fall at the same speed. However if you drop a feather and a rock, a feather will most likely fall slower due to wind resistance etc. That does NOT mean the law is invalid, it simply means the law applies only to a closed, controlled system. In this case, one that is air-less.

Moving on, that argument alone should have the creationist running for the hills. However, if you wish to progress, explain to them that it is irrational to use a scientific law, that does not apply to your deity. How can you say he is exempt? If you DO, you have suddenly disregarded rational thought.

2nd LAW- The second law of thermodynamics, is that of ENTROPY. I'll avoid the technicalities...It basically says systems move only from ORDER to DISORDER..climbing DOWN a mountain. This argument is used MILLIONS of times everyday by creationists. Apparently, it is meant to disprove evolution.

Again, it is only applicable to controlled systems, and furthermore, systems move from disorder to order ALL THE TIME. When a fetus, develops does it not move from DISORDER to ORDER? Look all around you in nature, systems move "up the mountain" all the time.

Once again, Good luck arguing with these irrational dimwits.

I just thought of something as well.....concerning the 1st law, wouldn't that imply that the universe and time are eternal, and have no beginning and end? answer me mr. creationist

lol I understand Joseph. However, my open dialogues with creationists usually take place when there's more than 2 people there. Hence, education is what I strive for. I may not strike a chord with the dumbass creationist, but I may just "convert" people who are skeptical about this whole thing.

Just a little reminder of the origin of the universe and life to tell creationists: Our whole universe was in a hot dense state. Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started, wait... The Earth began to cool, the autotrophs began to drool, neanderthals developed tools, we built a wall (we built the pyramids). Math, science, history, unravelling the mysteries, That all started with the big bang!

Isn't it great to be able to live in a world of logic and reason
