Scientology Ad on Atheist Nexus - Pay to Play Religion?

I thought Atheist Nexus was about the eradication of religious beliefs, yet Scientology is advertised in the right-hand panel under Bill Payers.

I have all the facts I need about Scientology. In short, it's a nut-job cult.

From Wikipedia:
In the OT levels, Hubbard explains how to reverse the effects of past-life trauma patterns that supposedly extend millions of years into the past. Among these advanced teachings is the story of Xenu (sometimes Xemu), introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy." According to this story, 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and detonated hydrogen bombs in the volcanoes. The thetans then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to do this today. Scientologists at advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating thetans and neutralizing their ill effects . . .

Here's a prior discussion on the topic regarding those ads. If the link doesnt work, it's in the forum under "questions about the strange google ads". It does seem kind of strange - instead of preashing to the choir, these are more like preaching to the hopelessly lost. It is what it is.

Yea, money talks but can't AN get more appropriate sponsors? I understand how Google Ads work, but this ad isn't by Google. Seems like it's paid directly by the Church of Scientology.

From what I understand, google ads work by searching for common words and then randomly assigning ads that have those as keywords in their search. So the more we talk about "god" "religion" etc. the more religion related ads show up on the sidebar. It's a computer, not a conscious choice on the part of anyone. At least that's how I've had it explained to me.

On a sidenote, if you click the ads and visit the page even once it means that a portion of the money paid for the ad goes to support our ATHEIST site. Kinda funny IMO.
