School Prayer - Isn't it all just for show?

At my son's National Junior Honor Society induction the other night, they ended the ceremony with the choir singing an Irish Prayer. Whatever, but it kind of irks me that the schools sneak in these little religious tid-bits of prayer from time to time. This is a public school, after all.

It just got me thinking about the whole prayer in the schools debate. Can't a religious person pray whenever and wherever they want? No one is stopping any one from silently praying to their god during school hours. I know - they want a designated time to have 'out loud' prayer. To me, that is just bragging and being showy about your religious beliefs. And that's what bothers me so darn much.

So many religious people like to brag and show off their beliefs. I guess they are so insecure that they feel no one will like them for who they really are. They need that religious crutch to help them out.

OK, I’m going to create a blog on it – I really need material and don’t have the religious background to get started…

John - there are a lot of weird comments like that in the bible - I'm sure if we could get them all in a list we could have hours of fun looking at the contradictions of them all juxtaposed.

I would say that it's due to religious staff at the school who think they are giving a gift of God to the kids dispite the unethical act of promoting religion in a puplic school. Often when people have strong belief they overlook hypocracy and ethics to meet their end goal.
