If you search on Google for "Sheikh Ahmed Ali" you find two videos on the first page, of which the following is one. This kind of sermon -- in a Mosque in Britain -- is clearly designed to scare young Muslims into being religious (to avoid God's punishment). In Islam there are many forms of punishment awaiting sinners and disbelievers. These include difficulties/calamities in this world, punishment of the grave and finally, all kinds of torment in hell. Other religions/cults also discovered the power of scare tactics and employ them in similar ways. Of course, religions also offer the carrot providing infinite pleasure in paradise. Perhaps I'll write another blog post for the pleasures of heaven awaiting good believers. (72 virgins and all..)

The following is a talk delivered by this highly articulate English-speaking scholar here in Leicester, UK. For more lectures by Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq, see the YouTube channel for AlKawtharAcademy. I sometimes wonder how (othewise) intelligent men like this scholar can believe all the absurd dogma that they preach.

What a bizarre moral framework. Reward and punishment have nothing to do with leading a good life, being compassionate, ethical, fair or just. It just depends on whether you're a believer or not. And there's no sense of proportionality -- reward or punishment is eternal.

The Rednecks are coming, the Rednecks are coming

Actually, the rednecks are here and everywhere. Let me say, I'm not a big fan of these people. That's putting it mildly. Need I describe them? You know who I mean. This seems to be the time of year when they come out of the woodwork. Here in Indiana, as the weather gets nice, the motorcyclists are out in full force. I hate the noise cycles make. Then there's the Indianapolis 500 fans, the majority of which are rednecks. Interview them or a typical Pacer fan (big news as they face the Miami…See More
