Black Atheists of America is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between atheism and the black community. Black atheists often find themselves as a minority within a minority group and underrepresented in the overall atheist community, because religion is so deeply ingrained in the black community. We hope our efforts will build a stronger overall atheist community by encouraging black atheists to be open about their stance on religion.

I didn't get much feedback from my family and still don't. All I get its silent space or an occasional phone call. Usually when someone dies or thinks I may be dead. My mother always wanted me to go to church, but, she only went twice that i can remember in my life. I am the only open Atheist in my family.

To any black atheist I am curious to what your family's reaction was to your atheism. Every culture reacts differently and I wanted to know just how negative the feedback was from your loved ones.

That accomplishment might reduce the stigma of open atheism for blacks or create a stigma for Oprah.
