Proof! Jesus is the only sensible mediator between God and Man!

(From Facebook)

Are you ready?

J:  Reading City of God, and St. Augustine just used Greek philosophy/paganism to prove that Jesus Christ is the only sensible mediator between God and man.

Richard: Proof? oh please do let us hear it!

Random Interjection: You could read it for yourself, rather than making a passing judgement!

Richard: I think judgement from a distance can be entirely appropriate in some instances - this being one of them - but I'll happily read the passage in context. Since J finds it so convincing is a summary out of the question?

Here it comes.....

J:  Oh gosh -- I'd have to explain chapters about the nature of vice and virtue, Plato's theology about the supreme God, the nature of demons (and Greco-Roman reliance upon demons as intercessors between man and God), the differences between men, demons, and God, and finally -- FINALLY -- tie all these together and explain why Jesus Christ is the only possible intercessor between man and the one true God, and why no other intercessor makes sense.

Are you not convinced?  :P

Tell him for me:

The opposite of skeptical is gullible.

He wrote back.

Apparently I have a closed mind and cannot be convinced becuase "I'm an atheist"

*sigh*

And another person confusing conclusion for premise.

I am a sceptic first - atheism is the result.

Pat, you need to include moshing into your dance choices - circle pits and such really cut down on the angel density.

:^D

Let's cut to the chase: they think JC is all that and fries on the side because THEY think so.  The fancy dancing looks nice for show and all, but ultimately, it has no more meaning than their assertion.

And, for our next  Facebook topic of interest (and proof?), "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin." But first, I guess I'd have to explain the nature of and differences between angels - cherubim, seraphim, etc. Then the nature and differences between various forms of pins - straight pin, kotter pin, etc. And, then the various types of dances there are - line dancing, Irish jig, waltz, etc. And FINALLY, tie all these together to show the number is 10x5 to the 35th power. Unless, of course, it's break dancing, then the number is somewhat reduced.

Handwaving and "lets bury them with words".  Lovely.  Although, with there being no god, Jesus Christ would be the only sensible mediator between humanity and a fictional and very unpleasant being.  Who cares?  It's of like arguing about whether the Cylons were better or worse than the humans, sense the humans destroyed earth itself in their hatred for each other.  It's interesting to argue, but it's still fiction.

He makes a very valid point.
