I've been off-list for a while now. We have been having a horrid time trying not to go bankrupt as the result of an IRS mistake and a vindictive wrongful eviction over serious maintenance issues. We now waiting for the bankrupt State government to reimburse many thousands of dollars they owe us. They have taken 4 months to process the material so far. We have no savings, no credit and live from pay check to pay check.
Insult to injury was recently provided by a local police officer who fined me $100 for going slowly through a stop sign with no traffic in sight just yards from my house trying to get home safely while fighting absolute exhaustion. I was driving the last car load of stuff from our old house in an effort to beat the accelerated eviction time-line. Did I mention that I am still recovering from major back surgery that makes moving anything extremely difficult.
The main heroes in this saga are a couple of atheists who lent and/or gave us thousands of dollars so that we could survive. I also acknowledge a group of Catholics who moved our stuff for free in their "bread van" in spite of the threat of being caught by California's draconian liability laws.
The lesson: nice people are nice people, regardless of their beliefs about the supernatural.
