Do we have any proof that praying actually works? If it’s true that God is omnipotent, all-knowing and all-present, what’s the point of praying? Shouldn't He already know what you most urgently need and want? Or is He the kind of God who needs to be begged and implored?

Have you noticed what people pray for? Look at the ridiculous spectacle of a football team praying to win? God cares about football? The creator of billions of galaxies cares about football? If God didn’t intervene when the Christians were playing the lions in the Romans’ arenas, he’s not going to give a hoot about the Steelers and the New England Patriots.

Right now as we speak, there are people praying in the Congo. They are praying that a group of militants don’t enter their village, kill all the men and torture the women. Some of them have screamed prayers to the heavens that some man entering their village would not introduce the barrel of his rifle into their wife's vagina and fire it. That’s right! It’s a torture that has been reported to have occurred repeatedly very recently in the Congo. It's been reported personally to Hillary Clinton when she traveled there as Secretary of State in 2009. Many Congolese prayed so it wouldn’t keep happening, but God didn’t judge it necessary to intervene and stop the horror. If God doesn't answer that kind of prayer, what kind of prayer is he going to answer?

Oh stupid me. I keep forgetting. God works in mysterious ways. We are not supposed to understand

Yes it is, a total insult, but that is if God existed. Right now it's just an irrational behavior, unfortunately practiced by millions for many reasons

I learned as a child to pray about everything, pray before I go to sleep at night ... if I should die before I wake....i pray thee lord my soul to take...

I had a friend in university and she was from Rwanda, fervent christian, praying and fasting that god would keep her family back home safe. What happened? They were all killed and her home was burnt to the ground.
