Intelligent people should not be surprised that the Polk County School Board has tried to circumvent the Constitution by having a Protestant minister recite a prayer invocation before the School Board Meeting is called to order, rather than, as in the past, praying after the meeting has begun. They had been warned of possible lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of this government sponsored prayer. The School Board thought that the prayer, if said before the meeting was in session, would not be contested. The prayer was not contested, but since the meeting had not yet begun, those in attendance could chat among themselves. They could talk with real, live friends, and not only the imaginary friend that the minister addressed
Now, the School Board must justify the arrest of John Keiffer for talking to a friend and attorney, Mary Ellen Wachs, before the beginning of a meeting!
Why should this ham handed attempt to establish Christianity as the official religion of Polk County surprise us? Lake Wales, in Polk County, has a City Commissioner running for Mayor, who was the past leader of The United Klans of America. His name is John Paul Rogers. It seems he needs assistance in writing a letter to the editor. An illiterate ex-Ku Klux Klan leader may become the next mayor of the city of Lake Wales, Polk County.
From yesterday’s Polk County Democrat newspaper:
When Lake Wales City Commissioner John Paul Rogers responded to a letter writer who mentioned his past as a leader of the United Klans of America, he said that he was writing his response “with help.”
